Bunk over Cab - realities

This is one feature that I placed high on my like list when comparing different models and floorplans. I have essentially made my bed on this ๐Ÿ™‚ and it will be on our coach. I am wondering however, if other people had high hopes for the feature only to find they really don't like it. Granted, some people not want it, don't need it, and hopefully don't have it. But, does it simplify the conversion from daily use to nighttime use and back again? I just think it will be much easier than converting between bed and sofa, and/or bed and kitchen table everyday.

We had one on our Holiday Rambler and the teenage boy liked it, although he found himself on the dashboard every once in a while when he fell out ๐Ÿ™‚

Other than a spare place to sleep, it would conflict with a bunch of forward cabinets on ours and I wouldn't want to loose the space. Our couch is electric so the grandkids have more fun operating that then a overhead bunk.

Depends on the bunk. Most of the electric cab over bunk designs are on rails and the bunk comes to rest on the front seats rendering them useless. A feature I did not want. In our ACE the bunk articulates and comes to rest about 6" higher than the front seats making both continually useable. Also there is the ladder and storage issue. The ACE didn't have a ladder, instead "steps" are built in - step on the dinette seat, step on a built in step/platform at the framework for the dinette. Works great and if you didn't know you'd never guess that's what it's for. looks like it's just part of the dinette. As far as actually sleeping on it, pretty much for kids. It will fit adults but it's a pretty confined space.

We do not use it because it is difficult to get into, especially at night when you don't want to wake your partner by turning on a light. It is also a little claustrophobic. It is probably great for younger adults and kids.

We have a powered bunk over the cab area of our Class A. It comes in handy for when our daughter travels with us as it is easier to use than the kitchen table or a pull out sofa. It does have its own share of considerations - the ladder has to be stored somewhere when the bunk is up, taking up space. Also, the electric motors sometimes get out of sync and have to be resync'd, but that is more of an inconvenience than anything else. The benefit is that the dinette is still usable even if the cab seats are not. We had this on our list as a "nice to have" but are glad we have it and would consider it a "must have" for any new coaches that we may want to purchase in the future.
