When we took delivery of our new "C", we paid attention. We watched and listened to the Dealer rep tell us "how to" do lots of things.

We read and re-read the manual. We thought we had a pretty good grasp on what we were doing.

UNTIL...... a plumbing "issue" caused us to discover ....

1.) The inlet hose to the strainer on the pump was NOT connected.

Then....

2.) After connecting we, we discovered that the conical washer was missing. (Never found it anywhere in the compartment.)

Then.....

3.) A continued leak, that resulted in a SOAKED under-sink cabinet, was located at the "cold water supply" to the kitchen sink, and it was discovered that ....

ANOTHER conical washer was missing!

NOW..... it was time to self-inspect the entire plumbing system.

4.) A flex-line was stretched and bent around a wood frame member, with a worn indentation to both the wood and the tubing.

5.) The same line passing through a rough-cut opening in a wooden panel with no insulation or grommet.

After contacting the manufacturer, I was directed to take the unit to the dealer and have them "go through" the plumbing. Apparently, I did a good job at the repairs, because I got a "Yerallset", and was sent on my way.

The good news is that the manufacturer has all these issues noted on "the file"..... after multiple contacts via email and phone.

My word to everyone is ..... play "INSPECTOR" and go back over the entire RV within those first days after you take delivery.

If you want me, I'll be outside on my mechanic's dolly, checking the undercarriage for a missing nut or bolt or hanger or .......

Do not use city water on your first time up. If you use the on board water pump you will quickly learn of any water leaks as the water pump will be cycling on and off frequently.

Absolutely camp near dealership and let them know you will be checking back with them before leaving!

I was told by my Jayco dealer (might be swapping out soon) that the PDI for a Jayco Motorhome was a 6 hour process.

I wonder how many dealers skimp on that?

This may be a good argument in favor of buying a "gently used" coach. We did it for our fifth coach a few years ago and found that all the problems of a new coach had been taken care of. The thousands of dollars saved is not a bad feature either!

Many RV makers do a slap-dab job of assembly with minimally trained assemblers and little actual testing and QC. The dealer is expected to take up the slack but must get factory authorization to spend what little money is set aside for fixing factory mistakes/defects. As others have said, have a practice camping exercise in your driveway before "hitting the open roads", try everything and allow plenty of time for busy dealer service to fix stuff, expect to have to take rig back to dealer to get fixes actually done and done satisfactorily.

I had 3 full pages of problems on a new unit, unfortunately quality control is the number 1 problem with this non-regulated industry and we end up being the final inspectors at our cost!

It is NOT all about speed!

It is also about cost cutting.

A detailed walk through at time of purchase might have saved you alot of grief. Quality and pride in workmanship is sorely lacking in the RV industry. Has been for years. I guess it is cheaper for them to slap them together and fix as problems show than to do it right in the beginning. Have you seen the video's of RV's being built? All about speed. Sad but true

^^^This.

And never ever take delivery without testing all the systems. That means USING them.

Best policy is to camp somewhere close to the dealership for a few days to test all systems.
