Dash Cover and floor mats

I bit the bullet and bought a Class A gas motor home. Now I'm trying to find a place that sells dash covers. I have dash covers for all of my other vehicles and find that it has gone a long way to saving the material the dash is made of.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Where to buy/order or even if they are worth the money that it's gonna cost.

Hmm that sounds easy enough.

Thanks.

We measured the dash, then bought a piece bigger than the measurements. We put the fabric on the dash and cut it to fit, then finished the raw edges of the fabric with an overcast stitch. I put little dots of velcro in the corners to keep the fabric from sliding off.

My question on getting material from a fabric store or rug remnant is how does one cut the stuff to fit? I sew a lot (as obvious by my screen-name) but making a pattern is beyond me.
Help.

I priced dash covers at Josies and mine would have been over $250.00. So I went to JoAnn fabric and bought a length of dark faux fur. Dark because the reflection of the light colored dash on the window was very distracting when drving. It cost $35.00 and works great to protect the dash and reduce the reflection.

Go to a floor covering shop and buy a piece of leftover carpet remnant. Besides being cheaper, it is easier to clean when something is spilled on it.:b

When we first got our motor home we noticed that the white dashboard reflected onto the inside of the windshield. Went to Menard's and got a piece of gray carpet. Made a template and cut the carpet with the pattern. It also makes a great place for the cats when we're stopped.

Any auto upholstery shop can sell you a custom made one.
4 whopping cylinders on Toyota RV's. Talk about great getting good MPG. Also I have a very light foot on the pedal. I followed some MPG advice on Livingpress.com and I now get 22 MPG! Not bad for a home on wheels.

Thanks so much for the thought. I'm excited to get moving. I've had a 5er for several years but this will be my first motor home.

Wade RV in Tampa, onsite with Lazy Days, does a custom entry carpet and they also do a custom dash carpet. If not close to Florida, they can mail a template to you to cut, return and they will ship you your carpets three weeks later.

I think of them as seat covers. My parents always put the clear plastic covers from Sears on the seats whenever we got a new car. I couldn't figure out why we always suffered with the hot plastic to preserve the seats for the next owner..:h:h..IMHO, they're a waste of money unless you simply like the looks of them....Dennis
