Direct TV to the RV - how easy ?

Hi ALL

We are Direct TV customers at home & we received a free Direct TV HD box with our recently new 2014 unit, & need someone to tell us how to use this Direct TV box in our unit.
Is it as easy as just taking the card out of the home receiver box & putting that card into the slot of the receiver in the RV ?
And do we hit the "reset button" on the box in the RV ?
We would appreciate any tips, instructions or info you have available.
Thanks !!

For $6/mo or $72/yr, why hassle with moving and possibly reconfiguring a receiver every time you use the coach? I just pay the $6/mo, set it up once, and forget about it.

I have a take out automatic dish(it automatically searches for sat. but is portable) service is with direct tv. worked good before we changed to hd. at home which required changing all the receivers. Kept one of the old receivers for the rv. Now when we travel I have to call and tell them my location, they turn service off at house and program the one in the rv. At least that is what happened when trying to watch 2014 super bowl.

I should have made it clear in the first message that we do have an automatic Dome receiver on the RV's roof which sounds like it is ready to go as it will search for signals when it is fired up. It is also set up to receive the Direct TV signals.
I was hoping that all we had to do was take the receiver card from home & use that in the RV's receiver & all would be fine.
But are you all saying that I will need to have the RV's receiver added to our account & pay rent on it ?
Is there any way to use either just the card from home in the RV's receiver ?
Or to take the home receiver along in the RV & hook that up in place of the RV's receiver ?
Thanks for the feedback thus far !!!!

A) No, you can't use any other card with this receiver.
B) Any additional receivers that you activate will incur and additional $6/month fee.
C) You can use that new receiver in your home and your RV and disconnect one of the home receivers to save additional charges or you can throw that receiver away (sell it on E-Bay) and just move one of the receivers in your home between the home and RV as needed.
D) I assume you know that even though you have a DirecTV HD receiver in your RV, your dome is not capable of receiving the DirecTV HD programming so if you activate that receiver your account will be updated to an HD account for an additional $10/month even though you cannot receive it. Some manufacturers (Tiffin comes to mind) put a free receiver in the coach since the wiring Tiffin uses requires and HDMI output and there are more DirecTV customers than Dish customers. That just leaves a series of possible issues that you just have to figure out.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

I take my older receiver, that we use in our kitchen, and connect it to our King Dome(not in transit model) and watch everything but local stations when we travel outside our zip code. I connect two cables to our junction box and that is all I do. Can watch it on our front TV or Bedroom TV of both.

We just take one out of the house, if they sat to long they will lose signal. than have to take it home and hook it up and after a while IT will come back on, if left turned on.

I also have to do a second satellite set-up when I take my home receiver and use it in the motorhome. You have to go the the set-up area on the menu. There I have to change the dish type to slimeline 5, the switch type to multiswitch, and the input to single.

You don't have to add a new receiver to your account, just use the one in the house, unplug it and put it in the RV and hook it up there. But yes, it does have to be an activated receiver, and no you cannot swap cards. They are indexed to their respective receivers.

I take one of the direct receivers from the house and Simply hook it up in the motor home. Just will not get local stations once you leave.

You either need to register, and pay a monthly service for the new box or take one of the existing boxes from your house. It is no different than adding an additional box to your regular account.

Just because you have the dome antenna does not mean that it is a simple as plug and play. For my in-motion dome I had to go through the set-up and designate the type of antenna I had, which turned out to be the closest match which was an 18" single LNB. This works for my Kingdome. When we want to watch HD I then have to reprogram the DirecTV box to recognize my Slimline 3LNB antenna. As I said I guess it depends on the type of box that you have but if the box takes a card, I doubt if it is the newest one available.

All the above, once its operational and its left unused for an extended period of time; you will need to call and have the receiver bump to re establish your signal

A lot depends on what type of DirecTV box you have. Mine still uses the card and I had to go through the set-up procedure to match my box with the satellite antenna that I have. We have had this box for three years and I never have to contact DirecTV to let them know where I am. When parked at home, the box stays in our RV with the antenna aimed to receive a signal. It never has been hooked up to the internet or phone line and receives all of the updates through the antenna hook-up. The box costs us $10/month since it is the HD box. It is on my Son's Maryland DirecTV account and we are listed, ON HIS ACCOUNT, as the Florida RV, at our Florida address.
