Door Question

The door on my jayco greyhawk violently opens. After a week long trip of my kids opening it up and watching it whip open im afraid its going to break right off the hinges. Anybody else have this problem. I was going to disconect the strut that controls it but the door will open too far and hit the outside tv mount.

The strut is coming off. Its too powerful my kids pull the door handle and it flys our of their hands. I need to check out the set up on some other campers so i can come up with a better system.

We had a strut that would open the door. 20# smallest that is available. Didn't like it at all. Removed it a made rubber bumper so the door would bounce off the awning support.

Pack up when they are away and leave kids behind.

I guess I'm behind the times since I've never encountered a door strut that actually "assists" in the opening direction. Seems to me that most are designed to assist in keeping the door closed. This sounds like something that's meant to work like the lift on a rear hatch, but even those don't usually open violently as you describe.

Maybe the strut itself is defective, or just plain too "strong" for the weight of the door?
