The side entry door on our Class C has a bad rattle in it that is annoying whenever we travel on a bumpy road or one that has a lot of asphalt patching strips, etc...The guy at the local RV place says it is from a broken adjustment rod that is inside the door. Guess this is normally used to adjust the door a bit if it gets a little out of kilter....However, since it is broken and has come loose inside the door it is not doing us any good... Just causing the noise that bugs me.The RV guy says they can try to open the door and see if they can resolve this problem... probably by cutting the rod off or somehow securing it so it does not rattle. He says the adjustment capability is not usually needed.Anyone have any experience or knowledge of something like this?Should I have them do it or is there some other better or less expensive remedy?

You will never get rid of all of the rattle. What you should do, though, is go to the hardware store and buy many feet of the peel and stick foam insulation that comes in a roll about 1/4" wide and put it between the coach and the screen door and the screen door and the real door. If it gets hard to close everything, that's good. As long as the stuff is applying pressure between the various things that are rattling, it will quiet most of them down. It will wear thin and you can reapply as necessary.I don't know what that internal adjustment rod that your dealer is talking about is. Never heard of it.Eric

Previous owners had the foam tape between the screen door and frame. It died of old age and left a gooey mess, not all of which I could get off. I haven't replaced it with anything, but if I were to, I think I'd try the little bumpers used on kitchen/bathroom cabinet drawers and doors.If your door is dragging on the sill, all the little plastic bushings in the hinge could be pounded out from road vibration. It isn't a pretty fix, but I could cut a notch out of small flat washers. Then raise the door by prying under, "clip" the notched washers over the hinge "pin" (actually a long rod) and squeeze the notch closed with pliers. That "shimmed" the hinge up a little.

If you sit by the door while travelling and can tell fairly certainly that something 'inside' of the door is rattling, I'd remove the door-take it apart and see!I'm not sure what kind of rod could be in that door-but even a few loose screws could cause some noise-only way to solve permanently is to dive in.

The sticky foam tape from home depot worked for our door and hubby is happy. I hardly heard it...just another rattle.

On mine, the door "whistles" and drives me batty. I have to open windows and angle the forward vent windows to create positive pressure inside to counteract the whisling. I really need to put some new foam on there.

The issue for me was that the more things rattled, the harsher the ride felt. When I got things to quiet down, the ride was so much smoother.

Are both door locks locked when you travel ? Is the foam/insualtion good ? Is the striker plate for the door lock positioned right, or is there play in the door when it's locked ?
Have you tried turning up the stereo ? :B
Since it's only while driving on bad/bumpy roads, there might not be any real fix for it.

I don't like what I'll call "chassis rattles." Wouldn't want dashboard to rattle for example. But "camping rattles" like dishes, pots/pans are OK with me. They remind me we're taking our Lake House to a new location. That Screen Door is somewhere in between.
