Engine squeak - Cummins 6.7 ISB

Well, I finally took my 4 year old Fleetwood Expedition with the Cummins 6.7 ISB in for the engine squeak while running. It has just gotten progressively worse since we bought it. They replaced the idler pulley and belt ( under warranty). That wasn't it.

I noticed when the air conditioner cycles it gets louder and then quieter with the cycling. So back it went. I pretty much think that's the problem ( air conditioning compressor). We'll see. But that one I pay for :M. I guess I finally get to use my extended warranty before its expires next year :B

I hope that's it .... the process of elimination can get expensive.
  • Extended service contract have a specific procedure for diagnosing, then repairing/replacing anything. Diagnostics are not normally a covered expense. After the shop diagnoses the problem and contacts the ESC, ONLY THEN will a covered expense be paid by the ESC. If the shop just throws parts at the problem, you then have grounds to protest any charge for unneeded parts, based on the shops diagnostic charges YOU paid.
I don't know about your MH, but mine has a separate "V" belt driving the compressor pump, that belt was loose causing a squeal when the compressor kicked-in.
  • Belt was loose on my air con. pump which would squeak when the compressor came on. A 2minute fix and the noise was gone.
  • I heard back today from Cummins. They said the last idler pulley installed a few weeks ago had a crack in it. Put in another new one. Hope it fixes the issue.
  • My 2005 Cummins 5.9 developed a squeak that got worse over time and louder when loaded down like turning on the AC. Did a simple test with water in a spray bottle to wet the belt a little while running to see if the noise changed. It did. Got a gator back belt and quiet ever since. Pully alignment should also be checked if it's a belt noise issue. Good luck !
  • Picked it up today. No squeak. I guess it was the new idler pulley was bad too (cracked). Wasn't charged for the second repair. Keeping my fingers crossed.
