Since the Pac Brake branded oil is just Super Lube Synthetic oil, blind obediance, buying the specified oil from Pac Brake, is the result of a good marketing marketing plan.
Even the link on the Pac Brake web site connects to the material safety data sheet at Super Lube. The flash point is 428 degrees according to the manufacturer.

I can't speak to the WD-40 you're referring to, but here's what I use: Pacbrake Superlube Exhaust Brake Lubricant

I have two types of WD 40 on my shelf.
The Original and their "Specialist" Water Resistant Lubricant.
They claim it is good to 500 degrees.
So perhaps it would be as good as the Superlube that I have used for the past 11 years?
