Fixing water damage on the old Dodge (pics)

I got started on my summer project the last couple days. I found this thing on Craig's list for $100 and drove it home. It's a 78 Dodge Monaco 23' with a 440. Here's what it looked like when I brought it home.

Ok, time to dive in!

Oh man, I can't believe the huge bag of rusty screws I have already! It's actually not as rotten as I was thinking it was going to be. Just in the corners, where the screws need to be. Still so much to remove....

Malcolm,
Just think if everyone who is watching this thread would come by for a couple of hours we could have that old MH up and running in no time! Might be a long haul from KC but what the heck. When do we start?

OK all of us need a 'fix'... So lets get Malcolm really motivated.
Nothing motivates like a cash incentive.
I purpose that we set up a Bank account for Malcolm, make donations to it and pay out from the account when he meets certain realistic 'fix' deadlines.

If you guys can decide who would be authorized to make disbursements and give that person control of the funds, it could satisfies our 'fix' and help Malcolm move the project along at a faster pace.

Discuss, ideas, questions, input.

Still at it! I am so impressed! Man, I can't wait to see the results... I wanna see how all this stuff is done...

Selfish motives and all, ya know.

Thanks for sticking with it...and taking pictures...and posting...

We're all just a little in your debt.

Awesome project man, makes my small leak repair look tame. I'm no longer afraid to tear into it. Good luck, John

Malcolm:
I think I just read in the RV.net bylaws, that you are obligated to posts something at a minimum of once a week.....preferably with pictures! How about a snapshot of your dog?:B

As mentioned, there are a lot of us, who need our "fix". Sure hope that the weather starts getting better for you, and you get back to work on the RV....though the garage build is pretty interesting too!!

I may as well let you in on my little secret... I kinda need a taller roof before I can get any more done on my 'new' left wall. I need to flip it over to staple the other side, but it hits my canopy. 😞

:B When I first looked at the first picture of the truss, I thought that you "sure did make a thick one!!":B

Then I realized that you were just stacking them against the wall! Duh!!:S

You better get started back on that RV, or you won't have anything to park in the RV shed! Are you planning on sides to the shed, or just tarping it? What kind of roof? Metal, or shingled?

Thanks for the pictures.....you are feeding our "FIX"....though we really want to see the RV some more!!:)

We had ONE good day yesterday (I say good, it was just dry and 50 degrees) so I started back in on the shed, rebuilding trusses.

When I was measuring how tall the RV is going to be I forgot about the A/C unit so I decided to make about 3/4s of the trusses 'scissored' just to make sure I'll have enough room for the extra 13" in the middle.

You were right to mention that the 3 generations didn't start arguing until near the end of the day....you were lucky on that one!! LOL!!

Structure looks great.....can't wait until it's done, so you can get back to the RV......Spring is already hear...you are gonna want to go camping soon!!

Keep them pictures coming!!

bumpus4,
The only thing I'd do differently on the layout would be adding more stakes around the corners so I could shoot 2 strings and have a nice string crossing to square things up better. We still came out pretty square and only had to cut around 3/4" off one post to make it all level.

The RV runs great, just has the standard leaky valve covers and a couple other small leaks so I think that will be the easy part. I've pulled 440s out of vans before so I wouldn't be against it if I HAD to...

Your pictures of alighing the post and squaring the coners give me good ideas as I have to build something about 12X14X40 for my Seneca.

Do you think you will have to pull thr motor and tranny?
tks, bumpus 4.
