Does anyone know how to access the spare tire to lower it if needed? This is my 1st RV. I want to know in case of an emergency - not planning on changing myself. I was told it was necessary knowledge in case. need location of crank down area

If any thing like mine, you crawl under and unbolt it, trying to catch the rack as it drops.

My truck doesn't have a crank-down either, that's more a minivan/SUV thing, ifbthey have full spares.

I made a small block and tackle to lower and raise the rack that the spare is fastened to.

  • On the Forester 3171 I owned there is no crank down location. The tire is behind the rear axle a few feet - in a steel cross member with a bolt and two safety chains. I removed it once, what a PITA!
