Freightliner V/S Spartan K2 Chassis

Looking at purchasing a new MH, anything helpful regarding these two chassis manufacturers would be appreciated.

Newmar is using FL on their coaches up to the Essex where it is an option. The King Aire is still only available on a Spartan K3. Both are good chassis's. I would definitely prefer Spartan, partially because of their engineering and factory service.

Did they ever use a Freightliner on an Essex???? I thought they had been built on the K2 since day 1.

**EDIT** I just looked at what brochures I could find on-line, I can't see where they ever used a Freightliner under an Essex. I'm not saying it never happened, I just can't find it.

The Mountain Aire went to a Freightliner, if that matters.

Freightliner chassis, Ford trucks, Jeep Grand Cherokee. That's the way I roll. Don't know why. Guess I was just born that way 🙂

When I was thinking about graduating from a gasser to a DP I asked this question to a lot of people on the road that I met. In my very unscientific way, it appeared that the Spartan owners were much happier and could travel more miles per day comfortably. Like I said, very unscientific, but I do put a lot of weight on those that clip off the miles.

Bingo. You can't compare the two brands unless you are talking about specific chassis. Having said that both are good names and both well represented. Freightliner probably has more service locations along the interstates but I wouldn't hesitate to take a spartan chassis to a Freightliner location for service if it was out of warranty. For the most part chassis issues are not real common.

You should get lots of feedback here. Many will prefer Spartan. I have never owned a Spartan, but have had 2 coaches on Freightliners for 8 years. Overall I have been pleased (again nothing to compare too) both mine have independent front suspension. A very good ride. What issues I have had we're resolved with great telephone tech service and a wide range of dealers. Safe travels

nothing but a Freightliner for me 🙂 🙂 LOTS of service centers around the country, lots of dealers, plenty of coverage wherever you go in the country
