any problem drinking water from fresh water tank have always just carried bottle water for drinking is this a waste of money

We have had RV's with water tanks for over 45 years, and have always drunk the water from the tank. I rarely if ever "sanitize" the tanks. When we come home, I drain the tank and leave the drain valve open until we're ready to go again. We've never had a problem yet.

We use our MH about 6 months out of the year. In all of our rigs we've always used water from the holding tank.

I always get a laugh when thinking about using bottled water instead. What do they wash their dishes in and then rinse them with - bottled water? Do they brush their teeth in bottled water? Somehow when taking a shower I always get some in my mouth. It's like when at a restraint in Mexico. You watch people insist on bottled water and then they pour it over ice made from local water in a glass also washed in local water...........

We've always used the tank. cleaned it with bleach a time or two. Always put in water freshner/drinking water quality chlorine. We filter our water into the tank. eve if we didn't drink it I wouldn't want to bathe or cook with water with nasties in it.
Before we head out cleaning out/ flushing out the tank and lines and water heater is a priority.
Saves a ton, of money, over using bottled water, which is bottled in plastic and sometimes you can taste it. Storage space is always a premium and bottled water would take up quite a bit, if enough for a trip. Wife sometimes brings some on board, to take on day trips etc in towed. I would just as soon use stainless thermos or other type containers, if we could find them and use the on board supply in them.

I am far from full time and always bring drinking water. If I were full time I would probably use the fresh water tank with some sort of filtering system. For now we just fill gallon jugs with our RO system from home. I do add a small amount of bleach to the fresh water tank a couple times a year. Just enough to make it safe to drink. That way when brushing teeth etc I am pretty certain it won't kill the whole family!!

Just think of your fresh water tank as a BIG plastic bottle.

Have your will updated...I'm sure your gonna die of some type of water problem or that is how some people play it out to be.

We sanitize tank at least 2 a year.

But we do go places that has water that does not taste good, so we buy bottled water by the gallon in those places. I can usually tell with the first pot of coffee if water tastes bad or not.

I think you'll take more of a chance getting sick by eating in some tourist trap places.

We also have noticed that some places have some type of water that has a scale to it. Every spring we clean out hot water tank with a cheap Camping World nozzle things to rinse it out good also. Have also changed faucet aerators just to be safe with water pressure.

We installed an under-the-sink reverse osmosis unit for our fresh water. The RO "waste" water is plumbed so it goes back into the fresh water tank so there's no wasted water.

We drink from our clean the tank every trip with bleach and have never had a problem other than the water gets warm, but we make coffee with it most of the time.

You'll find a mixed crowd here.
Some do, some don't.
Some haul their water from home (there's a whole bunch of threads on that too...)
Others fill up when they get near or arrive at their destination.
I don't recall hearing anyone has died from drinking their on board water, just be sure you sanitize at least at the beginning of the season.
We generally use our on board water for everything but making coffee. We bring a couple of gallons from home for that task. I can take bugs, rain, mud, and even yippy dogs and screaming kids while camping, but I gotta have coffee that tastes like at home.

Haven't bought any water in my 15 years of full time.
For drinking & cooking and the ice maker, all that water from the fresh water tank goes through a filter that takes out everything that may be bad.

Most bottled water is just filtered municipal (tap) water. Use your own filter and save money and the environment.
