Front and Rear TV Replacement - How We Did It

I have been asked a lot how we replaced the front and rear TVs, so here is information and a link to photos. The photos have captions that describe what they are. Double click on the photos to see the captions.

Pictures of the installation can be seen at:

TV Pics

Front TV

The frame around the front TV came off pretty easily and the TV came out without issues.

Mount we used:
OLLO MOUNTS: 30-46" Swivel / Tilt Universal TV Wall mount bracket * SHOCK ABSORBING TECHNOLOGY

We would recommend using the mount we used for the back TV in the front. We needed to take off some of the length of the arms of this larger mount to make it fit correctly.

TV: Samsung 32 inch LED Smart TV. We used Samsung because there is a very narrow frame so it would fit better in the space.

We built a support for the mount in the middle of the TV cabinet. Because the mount can tilt the TV, we had some play when positioning the TV so it was flush with the cabinet since the cabinet has a tilt. We attached the mount to the support.

We placed the TV so it was at the bottom of the cabinet and put a piece of wood across the top to hide the space.

When traveling, we put on a cover we made from quilted fabric. There is a slit in the back so the cover slides over the TV and around the mount in the back. We use I inch webbing with Velcro to strap it down. We use 2 strap brackets on either side to secure the webbing. You can get these a lot of places but here is what they look like:

Back TV

The back TV had a frame with screws that were covered by wood. Needed to take the wood cover off to get to the screws. We were able to put the wooden frame back after the new TV was in.

Mount:
OLLO: Triple Rotation 26-37" Swivel / Tilt TV Wall Mount Bracket * Shock Absorbing

TV:
Samsung UN28H4500 28-Inch 720p 60Hz Smart LED TV

We mounted the TV mount to a wood support we built on the left side of the cabinet.

We placed the TV near the top of the cabinet (we can still swing the TV totally inside the Cabinet). We left space at the bottom for the DVD player. We put the DVD player on the cabinet floor and secured it with Velcro. We placed it far enough back so the DVD tray will fully open.

We made the same cover as for the front TV and secure it while traveling like the front TV.

For both TVs, the mounts make it easy to get behind the TVs and into the cabinet. The mounts are very solid.

  • Thanks for the pics...I did mine a bit differently....

    Here's how I did mine.....:B:B:B....Dennis

  • I installed a tv mount from Costco for my front TV. It is 2 piece design, so that you attach the small screws into the TV and it's bracket, and then the bolts into the other bracket. You only need to hold up the heavy TV to lift it onto the bracket, only for a few seconds.

I have installed several TV's at my work (A retirement center) where the second person is holding the TV weight for a few minutes while the small screws are installed into the TV back, and if you leave it hanging by one screw, it can break off in the back of the TV - requiring starting all over with new screws.

I also used a mount rated at 100 pounds - for a 15 pound TV that hangs over my head while driving. I removed the frame, then installed some 1/2" plywood on hinges, so that I could access the space behind the flat TV, and have a sliding pin to keep the door closed.

    Have fun camping!
