Yeah, just a few:

12v vs 6v batteries 2013
12v vs 6v batteries 2006
More 12v vs 6 2006
12v vs 6v 2010
Why 2 6? 2006

Maybe I went over board, but when it came time to replace the battery in our B, I went with two golf-cart AGM batteries. 220AH and I've never come close to tapping them out. Love it.

They are inside the coach, so the venting issues were a concern for me. PLUS - I kept them in a vented battery box. That was probably not strictly necessary, but the holes were already in the van from the original box - so I just retrofitted a larger box to the existing vents.

I wanted to double up on that setup even. But when you start adding up four golf-cart batteries, the weight gets on up there, and I became concerned about weight distribution, since mine aren't centered on the midline of the van. I think they weigh about 70 lbs each.

There are true deep cycle 6 volt batteries in other groups sizes than just GC2.

Group 24
Group 27
Group 31

There is nothing magical about 6 volt golf cart batteries anymore. Lots of options.

If the batteries are -inside- the vehicle, I'd very much consider AGM models, to minimize venting of gases in the passenger compartment.

Yes, it is done a lot. Two 6v golf cart batteries in series produce 12v but give a lot more power because the batteries are physically larger. They are built to be used severely also. The big problem is that they are considerably taller than standard batteries and may not fit. If I had room I would be using them, my past RVs had them and they are great.

From reading these forums, lots of folks do just that.

Why 6V battery instead of 12V?
