Hard to start genny

Question

My Tour has an Onan 8000 generator which will turn over just once when trying to start cold. I have 4 brand new 6 volt GC-2 batteries which read out as fully charged. If I start the main engine and let it run a few minutes, the generator will turn over and start normally. What should I be looking for as a cure?

I'd look for a bad connection at the genset, if your batteries are new and in good condition.

Sounds like you have a bad frame ground near the genset OR a bad starting relay. Find either or both of those places and whack them with a rubber mallet to see if it changes anything.
