Help! Onan 4K generator refuses to start and stay on

Well, I dissembled the carb, cleaned it with carb cleaner and reassembled. Now, it runs for short time, very ragged and then quits, But, now the exhaust is BLUE whereas before the clean out it was almost clear. So, I need some suggestions. Do I really need to replace the entire carb/ Last question, what is the purpose of the solenoid and its purpose? Thanks for all your advise to date!
