Honda 2000i from van fuel tank?

I have easy access to my fuel pump and its easy to remove , so since the top of the fuel pump is made of plastic I plan to drill a hole thru the plastic fuel pump while the pump is removed from the van , i plan to use this hole as my fuel line pickup , connections at the generator end seem simple enough, so the only problem I see is venting , how would I go about venting the vans fuel tank?
Its a 1996 Chevrolet Express van and I believe these vehicles trip a code when the gas cap is not tight , so I was thinking that if I vented the vans tank mayby it would trip a code.
Any thoughts , suggestions, advice?

Mine would have a second pickup running thru the vans plastic fuel pump housing , a simple hole thru the plastic housing with a pickup tube running thru it , the vans oem fuel pump operation would remain the same/funtion the same! Just drilling the hole in the plastic fuel pump housing instead of drilling hole in the metal fuel tank.

Stick a plastic hose down the filler neck....The Honda has great vacuum and will pull gas out of the tank through the filler......But be careful of siphoning action if the generator is lower than the bottom of the fuel tank. This system works great if the Honda is in the bed of the pickup truck and above the fuel tank............But my truck is diesel....doesn't work too good...:-)

Then how would I even get my gas cap on not mentioning fueling my van?

  • Info: All sorts of options for the Honda 2000. I would be careful with how/where I tapped into an OEM tank though.
