How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

I'm new here, and curious.

How many of us in Class C own Dodge B300 incomplete
cab/chassis based RV's? I know two others- Steve aka
Ripsaw, with a 1977 Brougham, and Leroy aka 1978_Dodge
_Delta who owns a 440V8 powered sharp looking 1978
Delta RV. I would like to ask, and offer, help, idea
swapping and comparing notes on our particular RV's
which are based on the Dodge B300 van chassis.

Yeah, I know. These are low tech, podgy old RV's that
would be considered "entry level" for folks like me,
but I have a deep and abiding respect for the quality
of these old "monsters of the open road". And anyone
wanting to pick brains, joke about, share notes or just
brag about our old A- Dodge-io's are certainly welcome
to PM or email me. Between all of us we can form a real
good support group, and help each other with problems
we know we'll encounter with an older vehicle.

Sure. I'd love a new RV. But I'd rather have an older
one already paid for, and a lotta great memories. Call
me frugal, an old hippie, or whatever you will. I'm proud
of my old land yacht.

Mark aka White Knight

P.S. Mine's a '72. Is there an older one out there someone's
motorvating in? Maybe even a Travco? W/K

I upload my pictures from PhotoBucket.com. How do I make them bigger?

If you hover over the thumbnail in PhotoBucket, you get a string of links below. Click on and copy the one called "Direct Link".

Over here, either use the image button on the toolbar or add the [ i m g ] [ / i m g ] (but remove the spaces) tags to surround your link yourself.

Last is the option in PhotoBucket to resize the photos you've uploaded. In the Upload Images & Video box, there's a drop-down menu with Reduce To next to it. Choose 640x480 or bigger and your pics won't be made tiny.

I need to figure out my schedule and finances. ๐Ÿ˜ž Did you get my pm about the dimensions? I need to make sure it will fit in the back of my truck. (with or without the kids car seats might be a little more accurate) Wife is off to California for work this week... so I'm tied to home base for a bit.

Good news... Finally finished the shower. It took awhile to find some molding for the partial wall... but it's done. I put a shower curtain up and took my first RV shower standing up ever! It was so cool, I took two of them this weekend. I'm excited to have this done finally.

Bad news... I forgot to take pictures again. It's still at the campground as it hasn't stopped raining long enough to get it back home. We were able to pull it out of the lake to higher ground, but it's still really soft. Hopefully the next week or so.

I'll get pics next weekend.

Well I bumped it up to somewhere just past 10 degrees, maybe 15 I am not to sure as the timing marks stop at 10 degrees. It does not ping, and it did wake the motor up a bit. Actually alot, the engine is WOT shifting at 4000 now instead of 3800, yes I do have a tach. Get's on the freeway witout any trouble now, and it runs down the road at 65 with minimal throttle input. I am very happy. Now that was just the RV, not the RV and TOAD. I will try it tomorrow with the TOAD as I am going to the spring shop to get the left leaves added. I suspect positive results. Since it is less throttle to go down the road now I should see a little increase in MPG. I hope this all works. Next mod to the engine area might be to add a fan clutch or just remove the fan and go with an electric puller fan. That should free up some more HP to drive the wheels, that is if I think I need it.

Thanks for the info. I am going to do this this weekend. I will pass on the results. On a side note, I finally drove it last night with the new plugs and the choke opening properly. I think those plugs where the main problem it runs better than it ever has. 70 mph on the freeway without even thinking about it. So maybe I will get a little more out of the spark advance, and it won't work near as hard and need less throttle to run down the road. I will post results.

We set ours to 15ยฐ BTDC, but it pinged a bit too much, so we set it back to 8ยฐ BTDC, where it runs fine (the spec on the 440 is 7ยฝยฐ BTDC).

So try 15ยฐ and see how it does. If it pings, then back off a little at a time until it stops pinging.

Yes It,s very common to run more initial timing than the stock specs , as long as it doesn,t make your engine ping or hard to turn over .
One thing you have to watch out for though is that it doesn,t raise your total timing with the mechanical advance to much and cause detonation at higher rpm. Somewhere between 30 to 38 degrees total timing without the vacuum can hooked up is the general limit ,each vechicle/engine combo is different.
You,ll need an advance/dial back timing light to check the total advance and rev the engine up to around 3000 rpm or so. If needed you can limit the amount of mechanical advance by careful welding and filing the advance slots the proper amount or buy a new distributor that has adjustable slots. Either way it,s well worth the $ or effort for the increase in performance.
