I test drove my first motorhome today - Noisy

The wife and I are looking at a small 35' diesel pusher. I've never driven a motorhome and I don't know what I expected, other than I thought it would be a lot quieter. Because the engine is in the back, I guess I expected to hear nothing but wind, but that wasn't the case. Of course our Louisiana roads are in poor condition, and this particular stretch of interstate was horrible (uneven and potholes), but still. Is your motorhome quite? Do you have to spend $300-$400K to get a quite ride?

Wasn't even thinking along those lines, as there are so many out there. Did know that Bounder made one and even though things change all the time.

Fleetwood Pace Arrow 35E

Year, Chevy, Workhorse, Ford and you should probably make it part of your signature???
Helps when you converse, for getting better and more feedback and suggestions from those familiar with your rig. Especially if they have a like coach.
We once had a 87 PA chevy and after that a 98 National Tropical on a chevy chassis with autopark. Sure did a lot on the latter over 9yrs and for improving things, so someone could have a lot to offer....

It was the road! Well, not just the road. There was one rattle that they had to fix because a part was loose, but we also drove it on another road that was not in terrible condition as the other section of I-10 and the road makes the difference. We love the floor plan and we bought the coach. Thanks for all your replies and helpful information.

The engines can be a bit noisy but the air hitting the coach seems to really make the difference. We can't hear really well in any of our coaches except for the Yota C. That's because it's like being in a tiny truck.
4 whopping cylinders on Toyota RV's. Talk about great getting good MPG. Also I have a very light foot on the pedal. I followed some MPG advice on Livingpress.com and I now get 22 MPG! Not bad for a home on wheels.

DP vs Gas noise only pertains to the drivers area. Noise in the rear can be very annoying in a DP but extremely quiet in a gasser. Front noise in a gasser is only a problem on steep hills when it downshifts and the rpm gets high. New gassers are very quiet front to rear on fairly flat land and with 22.5 tires the ride and handling is great. I've owned all of them. Freightliner, Roadmaster, Spartan and several gas units.

Buy a quality used RV rather than a cheaply-built new RV. You will probably even able to get the used quality rig for less than a cheap new rig. I just traded a 2014 with 12,100 miles for a 2005 with 106,000 miles, and the difference is night and day. My 'new/old' rig is very quiet going down the road. My old/new rig was very noisy, lots of rattles and squeaks. My 2014 was $115k plus TT&L, I traded it even for the 2005, which was listed for $75,000. I could have saved a lot of money by doing it right the first time. I hear though that most people go through three RVs before they find the one that they really want/need. I am hoping since I had my other rig for 3 years that I learned enough with it that this one is the keeper.

My last rig had the Ford 6.7 diesel up front. It was silent. That wasn't the source of the noise.
