Inexpensive camping in S. Florida?

Markham Park, a Broward County Park near Sunrise in south Florida may still have sites available for January. About $40/nite. They have a large dog park offering separate areas for small and large dogs to run leash free.

Busy or not, the state parks will be your best option. They all pretty much have elec, water and dump. Some will already be full but try some of the ones more inland or a little further north and keep trying because of cancellations.

Start looking when you hit Ocala. There are tons of CG's for around 300.00 plus electric Between Ocala and Brooksfield right off 75.

Go any further south or east or west to the coasts and the monthly rate goes way up and more sardine like sites! Make sure you ask up front about how they bill for electric though. That's the big difference in staying at CG's in Florida versus other states.

Ya everyone will tell you it's colder in central Florida but it's all relevant. I am from the Milwaukee area too and I'm hear to tell you one or two nights out of the entire winter of 32 degree weather for ONLY 3 hours before dawn is certainly not a deal breaker for me to save 3 or 4 hundred dollars a month! :W

Sundance Lakes in Port Richey, Florida by the month is $21.00/day plus tax. It's old but has everything and everyone is pretty friendly, nice pool, clubhouse,homemade dinners, etc. It's north of Tampa if that's far enough south for you. You should post this on the destinations forum to get more info.

South Florida is already a busy place. Add to that, all the snowbirds, and space becomes hard to find and relatively expensive during the winter months. Now, if you can handle average day time highs in the upper 60s and nightly lows around mid 40s, North Florida and the panhandle has a lot to offer in scenery and campsites. You'll find a lot of Federal/State/City&County parks with available spots during the winter. My source for locating them is U.S. Campgrounds Info. January temps in N. Florida are a welcome relief from the summer months of heat and humidity and I'd reckon they are considerably better than Milwaukee.:B

Try the city parks around Okeechobee. Some of the private parks are less expensive.
Larry Penny and John Prince are reasonable but hard to get into.

Farther north is cheaper. It ain't like it snows.

In general, the further south you go and the closer to either ocean, the more expensive the campground will be.

The campgrounds in the north and central part of the state can be as little as $400.00 per month. Of course, it is colder there. In the Keys, as much as $2000.00 a month.
