Insurance

Pardon my ignorance..... but. How are B vans typically insured? Do you have to pay liability, collision and RV insurance? Secondary question, who do you guys typically use as your insurance provider. Thanks.
  • Update, hope it helps others. Did what I should have done to start with instead of asking on a forum. I called Progressive and long story short this is what I learned:

It is insured just like any motorized vehicle with a few exceptions:

    1. Total cost replacement for 4 years on a new purchase, after that it would be replaced at ACV

    2. Unlike most autos policies it has disappearing deductibles .( I said most Lol)

3.Vacation liability (not sure if auto policies offer something similar

Other than a few minor changes or insurance jargon these were the main differences.

Anyone ever heard of total replacement cost insurance on a regular car/ truck vehicle...
me neither . Hence my ?? about RV insurance. On my previous non motorized RV's I had this coverage and was wondering if it would be available for a B van and/or had to be purchased separately from regular L/C insurance. Sorry if I failed to ask the question correctly.

Ok, now that makes more sense. Since a Class B is essentially a modified van, I wouldn't think the insurance companies would offer a replacement clause....maybe if it was a Class B+. Hopefully someone here who actually has a Class B can provide you with an answer.

Sorry for the confusion and non-relevant answers.

  • Not all insurance companies offer RV insurance. I have always had Allstate for home and autos and had it on our RV until they dropped RV insurance, at least in our state. Now I have Progressive RV insurance and it is cheaper than Allstate was and has better coverage (not so with my other policies though so I still have Allstate). My only RV claims have been for windshield replacement and no problems with coverage.
  • Our Class A in on the same policy as our other car and the toad. I did get a rider included at no extra charge to specifically include awnings.
  • Our Pleasure Way was insured as a motorhome, with liability and collision, but also had an amount for contents like a MH.
  • What to you think RV insurance is? Insuring a Class B would be no different from insuring any other vehicle. RV insurance includes exactly the same thing as my auto insurance. No difference.

For the record I have Geico for all four of my autos and my motor home.
