K&N Air Filter

Has anyone used the K&N air filter on there Diesel pusher, have read positive and negative on these air filters. Supply houses want almost the same price for stock replacement as K&N wants for a clean able filter...

Although called "paper" filters, they are made from totally different materials (synthetic) than newspaper (wood fiber).

After a 150,000/200,000 miles a new truck is probably warranted. and that in many cases in a year or two of service.

Come apart??? Never heard of a Donaldston Filter failing and the change interval is strictly dependent on the dirt loading....might be one year might be 10 years which is why filter minders are used.

In fact, look at the filter minder before and after a long pull at full throttle. If it hasn't moved appreciably than there is no restriction of any significance in the air filter and changing to a different type buys nada.

I read that very 3 years is recommended due to failures, as you mention. Of course, too often is almost as bad as not often enough…..

I don't know how much you spend on a filter, but I really doubt you will get better filtration than OEM so it's a matter of how long before you start saving money. If, the KN has the same or better initial filtration.

The Dry type you mention is different. They are about $300 from KN for my size. At the price I get my regular ones $180, I have to wait 6 years to start seeing a payback. I don't know the initial filter efficiency of the KN, either. If I was driving 100k/year miles I'd have to do a cost analysis. Also, if I had a naturally aspirated diesel it might be interesting.

I don't see the value.

Two very big "ifs." You ever see a farm tractor or piece of construction equipment with an oil wetted filter (oil bath air cleaners on antique stuff doesn't count)?

Overpriced snake oil. Gotta hand it to K & N tho, they have kept that myth going for years and made several fortunes off of the gullible.
