I'm getting a light white film on my cabinets and on the inside of the windows. Has anybody else had this happen? I can wash it off, but a few months later it starts to show up again. I hope it's not some type of mold. The RV is stored in a garage when i'm not using it.
I would consider buying a constant-drain dehumidifier. Close up the RV, set it on it's highest setting, and remove all moisture. If the white film doesn't return, you'll know why. You are also setup for mold prevention.
Someone mentioned the location is a dry, but these days, dry places are getting wet and wet places are getting dry, so who knows.
I agree it might not be. That's why I suggested the test kit. That way you know for sure. Trying to eliminate an rv leak that is building up inside a wall etc.
I doubt that it is mold in Meridian, Idaho. Pretty low humidity. I doubt that mold would grow on glass as there is nothing to feed on. If it were mold it would be concentrated at the seams and not an even film. I'm guessing there is something in the trailer's or garage's atmosphere that is settling out.
If it is mold and you treat it yourself, KEEP TESTING the rv. If it is mold and you or someone else has allergies to mold or a compromised immune system, be advised that bleach will often only be a temporary fix. It can reformulate microscopically in the cracks and seams of wood. That's what happened during the Sandy storm in so many of those homes where owners treated the condition themselves and didn't use a licensed specialist using commercial products. Those people did not have any recurrences of mold.
It's in a garage on my property. I leave the windows and door open all the time. But thinking about it, I did have it closed up years ago when I didn't have the garage and the white film was showing up then. I will go buy a mold test kit and see what I find.
Sounds like a mold/mildew condition from lack of ventilation . Is anything else inside that garage getting a white film on it ?
Make sure you don't have a leak somewhere that has settled then shows itself while in storage. Check inside all cabinets, use a flashlight and your nose.
You can buy a test kit for mold at H. Depot for $10-15.00 If you have electric, run a dehumidifier.
Buy a 4 pk of DampRid from Amazon which does not require power to operate. or if you have a boat dealer/marina they will have dehumidifier systems of various types. Open your roof vents and windows if you can during inside storage.
google ways to clean it off so it does not comes back. Like a vinegar solution.
