Looking at Fleetwood Thor 31 ft 2006

Interested on a 06 Fleetwood Thor 31ft it has a ford V-10 engine, I have experience with the Workhorse 8.1 on my previous rig, would any body have some input on this engine, dependability, pulling power maintenance, would appreciate response.

Happy RVing

  • What he said. Make sure it really is the 2006. I have a 2006 and couldn't be happier. Nothing more than typical age related maintenance items.
  • If you're looking at a 2006 coach you need to verify the model year of the chassis. You can have a 2006 house built on a 2005 chassis. 2006 model year for the Ford chassis had some major changes with a higher output engine and a five speed transmission. A 2006 the button on the transmission shift arm will be labeled Tow/Haul. An older coach it will say OD on/off (or something similar).

I have a 2006 chassis and have had no problems worth writing home about. Coach has taken us everywhere east of the Mississippi River we wanted to go with no complaints. Added a Five Star tuner two years ago which made the coach just a bit better. Routine maintenance based on Ford's recommended schedule all performed in the driveway. 65,000 miles and going strong.
  • Have owned both the V10 and the 8.1 over the years. Currently have a 2011 Workhorse with the 8.1 and Allison 6 speed. I personally prefer it over the Ford Chassis for many reasons. But then again could just be the old Chevy vs. Ford argument..
  • We also have a 31' class C with the V10. I added the 5 star tuner but that's all I've done other than routine maintenance In 7 years. Pulls like crazy and we get 8-9.5 mpg.

  • Good powertrain, been around for years. Although updated over the years the V10 is still used today.

BTW, Fleetwood and Thor are 2 different companies.
