LP GAS ISSUE

SAMTHEBUILDER

THE LPG ON MY 2010 PHAETON WILL NOT WORK. AFTER TURNING A STOVE BURNER ON, THE GAS COMES OUT LONG ENOUGH TO LIGHT THE BURNER THEN IT SHUTS OFF. REPLACED THE REGULATOR, BUT STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM - GAS COMES ON (CAN HEAR IT ESCAPING) AND THEN GOES OFF. GOING ON FOR A COUPLE DAYS NOW. I CAN LEAVE IT OFF FOR A FEW HOURS AND SAME THING HAPPENS AGAIN. NOTHING ELSE WILL LIGHT EITHER.

ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Does anything else that uses propane operate properly such as the water heater, fridge or furnace? Is the stove on a slide? If so is it working properly with the slide in?

Sounds like either a kinked flex line as part of the slide or the shut off valve has failed. If other propane appliances are also failing the shut off valve is the problem. If just the stove (and it's the only appliance in a slide) then a flex hose might be the cause.

Take the line loose from the exit side of the LP regulator. Open the valve and see if the LP stops. do not do this longer than 20 or 30 seconds. Is the tank FULL? Tiffin had a problem with certain side mounted LP tanks a few years ago (do not think 2010 was in this) that the Pick up tube would pick up liquid. The ONLY fix was to replace the tank. This problem caused the LP regulators to freeze up and leak/fail. Also, the rubber line coming from the LP regulator, does it have a LOOP or a U---P-Trap? If so, you could have petroleum residue causing your problem. Doug

Backup to when the problem started.

Tiffin has not used an LP detector auto shut off in 20 years. The LP detector in your Tiffin will not be the cause. If other LP appliances work(DO THEY?), then a kinked line is the probable cause. Some of the LP lines in a slideout are hard to see and odds are that LP line is kinked. If the appliance is NOT in a slide out, then we need to know if other LP appliances work----Water Heater is the best thing to check. Doug

Propane detector on my 2012 Phaeton does not have a shut off switch. I doubt that is any different on a 2010. Can resolve that question with a call to Tiffin Tech Support to be certain, just have last 6 digits of your VIN handy when you make the call. While you are on the line they may have suggestions for fixing the problem. Best source of actual real information for most Tiffin parts!

Don't hesitate, they close for the holiday on Wednesday afternoon.

Along the floor some where in the kitchen is a propane detector and shut off switch. Turn it on and after the air works out of the line everything on LP will work.

You've pretty much ruled out a defective regulator and a pinched line.

One possibility is your tank contains butane, not propane, which stops "boiling" at about 32 degrees. Butane works fine in the summer, but not so well in cold weather. LP gas has to turn from a liquid to a gas (boil) for it to be available at the appliance. Propane boils down to a way down below "0".

Several vendors in the south sell butane or a mixture of butane and propane. You may have used all of your propane up and now only butane is left.

Look next to the regulator for an LP shut off solenoid. The LP detector could be shutting the fuel off if equipped.

Understand on the caps - just lazy. No remote fill shut off. Just changed the regulator. I'm thinking that maybe the tank shut off valve is faulty. There is a little slack in the knob.

Do you have a remote fill shut off?
Slight residual LP in lines could be what you are experiencing.
Could be defective regulator.

IT'S A CLASS A DIESEL WITH A SINGLE TANK. CHECKED THE LINES FOR KINKS. TANK IS FULL. I'LL CHECK THE SHUT OFF. WOULD IT RESET AND COME BACK ON BY ITS SELF?

I would look at the propane safety shut off. It is shutting off the propane for a reason. Leak or a malfunction in the propane detector.
My advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

Kink in line would be my first guess If you switch tanks is it the same?
