Macerator with grey water tank question

I recently installed a Clean Dump system. It works awesome. It pumps around 120 feet with ease.

I am wondering if I can leave the grey tank valve open so as not to fill up the tank so soon. Will the water sitting in the macerator hurt the pump? Will the water drain past the pump? Or is there a possibility of clogging up the pump by leaving the grey valve open?

Does anyone else leave the grey tank valve open with their macerator?

We are staying put here until May.

There are basically two macerator systems, a few different companies, ONE pump style (pump motor and pump)

Sani-Flo includes a small "Bypass" line which you can see on the outside of the pump housing that lets gray water drain past the pump.

Flo-Jet does not

I do not know about your system

Water will NOT flow through the pump itself unless it is running, the type of pump will not allow it... But the bypass hose will bypass if you have one.

Our macerator came with a gray water by-pass. If yours doesn't, you'll need to install one or else the water will not go through the pump.

My by-pass was only a 1/4" tubing about 3 or 4 inches long, but it would drain my 3/4 full gray tank in about 20 minutes.

unless you have a bypass the water will not flow past the pump and essentially do nothing by leaving the valve open. I am planning on installing a bypass with a ball valve so I can do it via gravity or pump. Just remember, it will drain slower as it's a smaller dia hose and the bypass is even smaller.
