Pilot RV lanes

When I talked to a Pilot rep at the Tampa RV show in January he stated that all new Pilots will have RV lanes. Stopped for the night in Murdo, SD which has a new Pilot and it does have RV lanes. Three of them. Also noted that the Des Moines, IA station is now listed as a Pilot and I would doubt they removed the RV lanes.

Just returning from 10 week cross country trip. I had no problems using rv/car pumps in terms of the amt for gas. Getting in and out of some of these was very tight or impossible. Others were more generous with the amt of room and it was appreciated.
I like it when the truck side has gas too as we've seen in the northwest.

Susan & I have no problem in using RV lanes. From Az to SD to Il, our first full timers trip we had great success. As for fuel SPEED. We are full timers and in no hurry. Whether it is 10 minutes or 20 minutes. We are not in a hurry to kill ourselves or someone else.

The RV lanes are just so hard to get out of, that is one tight turn around the front of the store. and since they started charging to dump, there is nothing there for me.

I always use the truck lanes. Use my flying J card to start the pump, fuel on both sides with the BIG nozzles, 80 gallons of #2 in a couple minutes.

Pull up, go inside and pay, wife barely has time to walk the dawgs and we're back on the road.

Pilot/Flying J also has a RV charge card that allows you to use either truck lanes or RV lanes for either diesel or gas. I just got mine but haven't used it yet. If the pumps dispense receipts I reckon you may not need to go inside at all but not sure on that.

It gives a discount off the cash price and appears to be affiliated with Good Sam.

Now we have a DP and only use the truck lanes, with the RV Plus card. It makes a 45 minute stop into 10 - 15 minutes. When we had gas MHs we always used the RV lanes, but I think some people gas up then go shop before they move out of the RV lanes.

I have considered using the RV lanes at Flying J but every time I look at them, there are cars or trucks using them and the exit from those lanes through the forecourt looks very tight. The RV lanes themselves look fine, but it is getting out of them through the front of the station that seems to be problematic. I prefer the quick fill at the truck lines and love the fact that my Flying J card allows me to start the pump without going inside. I know that also applies to the RV lanes.

Mr. Mark - If you get yourself a Flying J loyalty card, you can use it to start the pumps - even in the truck lanes. Saves you one trip inside to the fuel desk.

I can see where DP owner's would find the RV lanes less useful, but for us gasser owners they can work quite well. I pulled into an FJ RV lane last week, fed the pump my PenFed Visa Card ($495 limit per swipe), followed by my Pilot/FJ Frequent Fueler Card, and was out of there with no hassles in 10 minutes or so with 60 gallons of fresh gas at about $0.20/gal less than the posted $3.65 price.

I'm with Mr.Mark. I gave up on the RV lanes years ago after a couple of bad experiences...mostly related to the throughput speed (slow pumps, multi-card swipes, folks taking their time shopping, airing tires, washing bugs off the front etc. etc.)...all this creating long lineups in relatively limited space.

There's plenty of room around the truck lanes, the truckers don't muck about, the pumps are way faster, you can get DEF if you need it and, if you have the Pilot/FlyingJ RV card, you can fill up without going inside first and you get a few cents off. Diesel only, of course, and remember to get in, get your job done, and then pull ahead before you go in to pay (i.e..try to stay out of the way of the folks still working for a living).

I find this much less stressful and time consuming. FWIW

I've seen several but have not used them..still go to the truck lane but might if the truck lanes are full.

What's the advantage for a DP??? Probably none but great for gassers, and trailers I would think.

For the first time in 6.5 yrs., we recently stopped at the RV lanes at a fuel station (can't remember if it was a Flying J or Pilot or ?)... never again! The darn pump pumps as slow as molasses and I had to run my credit card three times to fill up. It would cut off at $100 and would only take one credit card twice. I had to switch CC on the third swipe. I don't have time for that!

The truck diesel lanes will pump 20-30 gal a minute so I will never go to the 'slow' pumps again, lesson learned. Yes, I have to go inside first and let the clerk know how much I expect to spend but it's worth it.
