Satellite TV

I have had the Dish Tailgater for a year. I do not have a Sat system at home. Initially I was disappointed as I thought all I needed was a good look at the southern sky for access. It can be trickier in heavy forested CGs or when bad weather prevails. The 'pay as you go' aspect is cool but not really a savings for shorter trips, However, when I have a great connection it is worth the increased per day cost. I have not had good luck with getting local channel access but all the major network channels and Sirius radio channels make it worthwhile. DISH customer/technical support is good but at times the wait on the phone can be forever.

Dish TV and Winegard X2. Simple and works very well.

Diectv with Winnegaard traveler and vucube when stuck in trees.

When I bought my 'C', I had an in motion satellite dish installed and a dish receiver. Kinda stupid, since I'm a single RVer and can't watch TV while I'm driving. OK when I stopped for the night - if there were no trees in the way. Its still on the roof because there's a big hole in the roof where it was hooked up to the Dish receiver. Now its just the world's most expensive cork. Turned out that most FHU parks have some sort of cable available. At least the major networks, but I didn't know that when I started.

I've yet to try getting HDTV on the road with Direct TV. It took forever to get the right satellites at home when replacing my standard dish with an HD dish.

Went to Las Vegas and still had the local channels, about 260 miles from home. I usually watch cable news and the history channel or sports so I have a nice

selection to choose from. I have no problem getting the satellite signal off my roof mounted dish. As long as South is clear, maybe a few minutes.

I find that setting up HDTV is much easier than setting up SD. I line up satellite 101 using signal meter on the
DirectTV menu and my inline signal meter. If your signal strength is 90+ on 101 you should be good on the other two channels you need for HDTV.

Do you want satellite or not? This is the best option for anybody who doesn't want a one or two year contract with a satellite provider. I don't expect they'll change their policy because you don't like it.

You are so right. Paying for a month is better than paying for the two years. Not only that but you can pause it for up to 6 months, I believe, without having to pay a initialization fee again. This is just long enough for our winter storage.
