Seelevel sensors

We have seelevel sensors on our Monaco, I put them in in 2012. Most recently, maybe 2 months, the gray tank sensor says 100 all the time. (when draining it goes to 95 for a bit, then back to 100)

The black tank sensor failed completely, so last week I replaced both black and gray sensors. I did some testing during the replacement, initially taping them on, and testing signal strength and performance.

Whichever sensor I put on the gray tank reads 100 all the time.

I called seelevel and worked with their tech a while, and gave in to the obvious, the tank is sludged up with enough of something that it's screwing up the sensor.

I bought 2 containers of happy camper extreme and will use one the next time we move.

Any other experience or suggestions on how to get this sensor working again?

Not being a jerk, honestly want to know... How do I get ice into my grey tank?

Reason I ask, cook greasy food, wash greasy dishes, that stuff is bound to build up in my grey tank.

We've had good success using a tank wand, our sensors remain functional always indicating empty after dumping tanks on our 9 year old rig.

Jim......when I had my 2005 Monaco, I added a sensor system, (forgot the brand name and the company later discontinued making the unit) that used the same strip type sensors. The system would read the water, battery and propane perfectly, but was finicky when reading black and grey. I called the company and they said they had issues with the sensors reading Monaco tanks due to their thickness. I never got them to read perfectly, but it helped when I placed some dense foam between the sensor and compartment wall, putting pressure on the sensor. It might be worth a try.

I loved that sensor unit because it had a digital display screen that showed all of the tanks at the same time in percentages, in increments of 5.......100, 95, 90, etc. It also showed the battery numbers too.

After dumping my black tanks, I will fill up with about 1/4 or more fresh water for the ride home. The sloshing around seems to help.

Some years ago, we had a similar problem with external capacitance sensors (not SeeLevel) on a Class C grey tank. I dumped a full bottle of Dawn dish detergent down the kitchen sink and filled the tank to nearly full. After a 20 mile drive on some moderately rough back roads, I drained the tank and the level monitor once again read correctly. I haven't had the problem yet with our current SeeLevel sensors, but I wouldn't hesitate to try the same fix again. Other detergents may work as well, but I know Dawn works well in cold water and is a good grease cutter.

Never had it done but there are businesses services that can pressure wash out the tanks or so I've read. The only one I've seen was connected to a tank pump out service
