SERVICE FAILURE AT "McBride's RV" (Chino, CA)

I wanted to let everyone know the results of my Radiator Coolant change out and filter head/filter replacement on my coach. I did a lot of research and went to McBride's RV Service and Body Shop in Chino, California. Met "Chris" who seemed to care and spent a great deal of time with me going over the initial service requests of coolant change out and filter head/filter replacement, but also many other items as my RV would be gone over by one mechanic, (including tire pressure to 100psi, transmission fluid check, top off fluids, lube chassis, check roof, check batteries condition, and document everything in a user friendly handout.

Cut to the chase, the coolant was changed as was the filter head and filter apparently. They advised that the filter head was a bear to get not to leak. As to all the other items, they were not mentioned or logged or even considered. To make matters worse, when I mentioned to the manager, he didn't know that the appropriate thing would have been to offer me a ride back home until everything was completed as promised or offer to discount the less than satisfactory job. I should also mention that the website for the business was apparently outdated as that was the excuse they used when I pointed out that the quote for the bill was not what was listed on the website. So their website gets updated adding hundreds of dollars for services and my bill remains now higher than some other shops local to the area. As a matter of fact, if I hadn't asked about the transmission fluid at pickup, I would have left with the fluids 3 quarts low. And the courtesy wash of the RV before pickup that was mentioned didn't happen either. I think they saw me as money and the customer service was not even thought of as I was lead to believe when I first arrived and spent 45 minutes plus going over my service requests. Not many current reviews out there on them, but here is a current review. I would stay away from here as you cannot trust them to do the job or do the right thing for that matter! Sorry for the long rant, but I feel better giving the heads up to others that may live in the area to save them from a similar encounter.

Wow indeed Fred! (amusing post)

I had to set an appointment specifically for the attention to my coach. And as stated, it was a complete waste of my time as it accomplished nothing as it turns out.

I paid for the transmission fluid (Transyd I might add and paid for the gallon). Three quarts hardly a top-off, but had I not asked, it could have been a different story as it was low. And I never asked for anything for free, it was being calculated in the estimate of everything being completed, (including the time spent/wasted with me). The website prices should have been matched or at least met somewhere in the middle. Just says something else about a business and their attention to detail! They aren't going to forget to do anything else on my RV and making up prices after you drive to their location...well it's just wrong!

And I am so tired of hearing how everything costs so much! Customer service...good customer service seems to always find a way to overcoming the costs of doing business. It seems to me that having pride in the workplace is quickly dwindling and in southern California, at an all time low!

Lastly, the mechanic actually doing the work should perhaps start a mobile service. Word of mouth could help his business dramatically instead of working for the man who let him down as much as he let me down!

You wrote - " when I pointed out that the quote for the bill was not what was listed on the website". Since this was the quote, you should have walked then.
My advice is worth exactly what you paid for it.

Wow,

When I take my car or truck into a service place, I try to keep it to the point, as normally they are billing $75 - $125 per hour for the service people.

You got 45 minutes for free?

Their web site prices I guess are subject to change as prices change over the years, sorry to hear they did not update it with current labor rates. Many mechanics now are making $32 - $37 an hour. And the mechanics want the employer to pay $475 a month in health insurance, and other benefits too!

Where you expecting the 3 quarts of transmission fluid for free too? Just wondering.

Most places are run by hard working guys who try to keep their customers happy. Sometimes they fail at that, but normally have a core group of commercial customers that keep them pretty busy.

Good luck finding another place to take the coach!

You might want to check the coolant filter for leaks soon too. I found that once the old gasket stuck to the coolant filter housing, and with two gaskets, they did not seal properly. Leaked all over the place! But was a easy 5 minute fix.

Fred.
Money can't buy happiness but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a

Porsche or Country Coach!

If there's a WILL, I want to be in it!

I havn't been everywhere, but it's on my list.
