Hi:
Have any hints for good hygiene using campground showers?

If I wanted to use shower houses, then I wouldn't have bought a van with a decent shower. I would have just gotten one with a porta potty.

I like the convenience of using my own shower and can usually have a shower for a gallon or so.

I can see those of you with the side bathrooms, or the ones where you can't stand up properly wanting to use the shower house - I would too in that case. The usability of the bathroom was at the top of the list when I was shopping for a van.

I must be camping in all the wrong county, state and federal camp grounds in no. California, Oregon and Washington as I have never experienced the deplorable conditions described. We prefer state over federal and think Oregon is tops in maintenance. We are fortunate to live in Sonoma County, CA which has exceptional state and county parks.

If you have phobias about public showers, give up RVing in a Class B or get a big Class C, Class A or trailer. ๐Ÿ™‚

"don't have to worry about dropping a bar on the ground. "

So if you do drop your soap, how do you wash it off?

How have I survived all these years using public facilities?

respectively have to disagree with you on this one. Seen too many CG showers where the low life's seem to think they can use it as a toilet. ๐Ÿ˜ž

So no, if it's 'dirty' with pee it CAN be a disease and it's not just dirt! :B

If the water is hot, I'm happy. I hate those showers that you get just right and then it goes suddenly cold. Like somebody in the other restroom is having a good laugh. Oh, and those soap holders that hang around your neck are good.

Flip flops in the shower then stand on this in the dressing area - flip flops off. Dry off, get dressed, put socks and shoes on.

Mine is cedar - I don't know what the one at Camping World is made of...

Here's a link and it's on sale right now.

Haven't used mine in years and I don't even know where it is... I'm really good at navy showers - and if we had no water I would rather wipe myself down with baby wipes. I've been in lots of CG showers and I just don't like 'em.

I wear flip flops. If the showers are disgusting, I would probably not use them, and go somewhere else. That has happened exactly once (standing water in the showers).

So let me get this straight. You're supposed to shower on trips?

Crocs are the best. Slide in and out no problem. Never lean on the bathroom wall with any body part. Good balance is a must. Shower caddy is a must for my supplies. Separate towel,so I can stand the kids on the bench when I dress them. Shower gel is the best don't have to worry about dropping a bar on the ground.

I have a slightly different approach. I found a rubber sink mat about 18x20. I keep it in the camper and bring it with me to the shower. My slides stay out on the floor and I only stand on my mat barefoot. No sand in the shower. When done I step off my mat right back into my slides. Mat is hung on the side of the camper in the sun to dry.

What? Body's "PH balance"? I've never heard that one before.

I do like the last sentence -- I may use that as a signature if that is okay!

I know swimming pools, and spas. Kids, and some adults think pools/spas are their personal toilet.
I'll use the showers, but wouldn't set foot, or feet, in a public pool, or spa.
Take a look at the Park, or campground, the pool is probably getting similar care.

I wear Crocs and try to keep out of contact with all surfaces. Been camping for many years and never encountered disease ... yet. Have looked at a few showers and decided not to take the risk and walked away.
