does any body use those slide locks when traveling?

They prevent slide room from backing off and losing pressure on slide seals. Very important when towing in the rain

May depend on the manufacturer of the RV. A customer service tech at Winnebago told me it wasn't necessary to use them.

I have them and use them some times. I don't see a big advantage to having them in or out.
