Tag Axle

We are renting a 42' tiffin Allegro Bus and it has a tag axle.
Anything special I need to know about driving with one
I drove a truck for a few years so I'm familiar with driving a large vehicle but haven't had any experience with a tag
Thanks for any help you can give me
  • My coach has a switch that will release the pressure on the tag when needed. However, I understand that if the switch is in "auto", the pressure will be release at any time the coach is going less than 8 mph and re-pressurize the tag when over 8mph. Not sure how true this is, so I always use the switch whenever I'm making a turn in 1st gear.

DO NOT DRIVE IT as it's going to cost you a bunch. Once you've driven a coach with tag you'll never have anyting else. It probably has a switch that lets you take the pressure off the tag for better turning in hard turns. Mine actually raises but unless I'm making several hard turns I do not worry about it and I'm paying for the tires. Even if you forget to turn it off mine will go back down once I get into 2nd gear.
*It's easy to oversteer a long wheel base rig. Give you steering inputs a little longer to take affect and on a interstate see how little input (actually only a little pressure) will keep it between the lines... with practice you'll be surprised how little it takes.
