I am new to the forum, however have read for over 5 years in planning for our retirement. I have 192 day until that special day. I am planning on upgrading to a class A after Sept. 6th of this year. Looking at a number of used coaches in the Florida and South Carolina area. My question is ...can i title the coach in Florida, where it will be for at least 6 months of the year when i still have a stick & brick in South Carolina.

I was told this is possible to save on property taxes.

thanks for your time...

The statute says that if you have owned the RV for less than 6 months, and the state you purchased it in was less than 6% sales tax, then you would owe Florida the difference. If the sales tax you paid was equal to or more than 6% then you owe nothing. If owned for longer than 6 months then you owe nothing.

For ALL first time registration (with a new plate) there is a one time $225 fee plus the first year registration cost. Adding a second vehicle adds another $225 fee and so on. The annual renewal is less than $100. When purchasing a new vehicle there is no fee if you simply transfer the plate to the new vehicle.

Good info. We're moving to Florida in a week, and wondered if I'd have to pay sales tax to register the coach down there, having had it registered in Mass for 3yrs.

Pretty sure the sales tax will be less in SC and then after six months you can change to Fla without having to pay Fla sales tax. My two year Fla renewal was $155 but your first year may be more than this.

To register in FL you will need an address that you can claim to be your address. When you register the new RV there you will owe 6% sales tax on the unit plue the first year registration is pretty high. If you previously owned the unit for 6 months in some other State then there is no sales tax when registering in FL.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

You must have insurance issued by a Florida insurance agent, which will probably require some type of an address to acquire. After that, it will be no problem registering the vehicle in Florida.
Now what South Carolina will say about your Florida registration is the big unknown. Why not call the SC DMV and ask them what happens if you get stopped with a SC driver's license, showing a SC address, and you are driving an RV registered in your name to another address in Florida. This not a problem if you are in the military, but since you are not, it may be a big red flag.

There's cars galore down here with FL plates and they are not all residents. However, many are, even though they are here, for less time than in their home state. It's done every way, one could imagine and mainly with telling your insurance company with what they want to hear. Some used to ask for your resident state and others wanted to know where the vehicle was garaged. I once ask and agent about 6mons. and 6mons. and his answer was......I see where you're coming from...

There are a bunch of Michigan residents with Florida titles on their MHs. Most just get a Florida PO box, while others use friends or family address. Saves them a bunch of money and I suspect not legal.
I don't know anything about S.Carolina laws.
