I am thinking of getting a tow dolly but don't know which is better, one with electric brakes or surge brakes

I have a Demco KarKaddy SS with surge brakes; have pulled it for 10 years and over 50,000 mile in all kinds of terrain (see map below). It has work wonderfully and I can pull it with any other vehicle I want as it does not require a controller.

I have an American Car Dolly and the controller is on the dolly- works great. - activated off the brake lights. No controller in the MH. Its a stout , well built dolly and I've run it thousands of miles now with no problems. I've had surge brakes on other trailers but I prefer the adjustability of electric brakes, and the ability to back the dolly up when not loaded.

I preferred the electric brakes as I have an enclosed car trailer with electric brakes and can control the brakes from my cockpit.

If you already have brake controller, go for eleteric brakes as that will give you control of it from your driver seat.

Both work fine, surge is easier to hook up because with electric brakes you have to run wires from a brake controller. Our tow dolly has surge brakes.
