I know this is opening a can of worms but......I have been RVing since 2001 and can count on one hand the times I have stayed at Walmart. One time I stayed because I saw a Prevost there. I thought if it was good enough for him it's be OK for me.

If you do use Walmart do you call ahead or talk to the manager or employee? We are headed back to the Midwest in a few days and was interested in ideas.

The grey tank dumper had to be joking. That was too stupid to be taken seriously. With respect to the shootings the large share have to do with drugs and fights between the dealers. I have not stopped at a Walmart but do stop at some travel centers or large truck stops. Simple rules . Slides in etc.

Yes I always play loud rocks n Roll music, shower outside in the nude, put out my slides (and I don't even have them), set up a grill, put out the chairs, grab my guitar and play along to the music! Oh and I sing too!!!

Then I park on the south side of a north sided parking lot and slowly empty my black tank on the sidewalk while playing "Slip Sliding Away"!

Slowly drain my gray tank... Good heavens!

Come on now. My fuel monitor wont go that low but I'm betting it could save .001 mpg or so.

If you put your garbage on top of where you dumped your tank nobody will step in the mud till the area dries too. :R

We only put out a slide if there it is over a grassy side or median. We do not put out a slide over asphalt as it becomes a danger. We never put out an awning as we always arrive after dark and leave early.

It makes me chuckle when I hear people say they would NEVER stay in a rest area because it's waaaay too dangerous.

I don't think you'd find too many 2 bit crooks with the time, vehicle and gas money to drive up & down the Interstate just so they can stop at rest areas to see who they can rob.

Wally Worlds on the other hand, seem to be way too handy to the less desirable members of our society, and places they seem to frequent to boot.

Most? Maybe, but it seems that it only takes one or two.......

Woman shot in broad daylight in WalMart parking lot.

It's an odds game though, more po' folks means more likely something will happen.

Shootings are out of control in this Country. I can get you a thousand "person shot in there own home" for every "person got shot at Wal-Mart" story. Should we not go home?
Most criminals are not fond of well lit places with lots of people hanging around 24 hours a day. I have never felt unsafe at any Wal-Mart.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

I'm a good, responsible, safe driver. My wife finds the next Walmarts down the road, calls ahead, she briefs me, then we decide which one. It's very convenient, and affordable.

The spaces are there for Truckers who are earning a living. They operate under Federal Hours of Service. If a trucker arrives and there are no spots due to RV's hogging the lot you are causing serious problems. You are in a RECREATIONAL vehicle not a work truck. Not fair!

Having worked at Pilot, I can say most "truck stops" such as Pilot or TA allow rv's to park in the side areas rather than the actual truck spots. I know, some rude people park there anyway, but at our Pilot, security would ask them to move up to the automotive side. Some people are looking out for the hard working men and women out there. Happy travels!
