water heater leak

2011 winnebago journey. Found water in water heater compartment. No leak with propane or electric, house pump or city water. Problem may only occure in transit. Have noticed the water is scalding hot after traveling for a full day. Tried to reproduce leak by running engine, but may not have reached high enough temp. It appears that I could bypass water lines coming from engine. Has anyone had this problem?

  • PRV is not leaking, water is to back of compartment,,My engine temp changes from 210 to 185 and varies as to ambient temp and driving conditions. Is this normal operation for a Cummins????
  • When the hot water tank is cold (not turned on) open the handle on the pressure relief valve. If water comes out of the valve you have lost your air space in the water heater. When the water stops running out of the PRV hit the level and let it slam shut. You now have your air space back.
  • I had a simimlar problem last year when I was driving in 105+ temps. The water was scalding when I went to take a shower that evening. Under more normal conditions that never happens.
  • Found water in compartment......Water scalding hot after traveling full day.......(You must be working engine pretty hard.....engine aid should only get water to 130*F after 2-3 hrs. of driving)

If that water is in the outside compartment then:
Water is probably leaking from the PRV.
Water system on rv's is a closed system so as the water heats it swells and pressure builds....PRV drips

If that water is inside the rig around water heater than suspect leak in engine heater exchange.....either leaking at hose fittings or possibly from 'heater tube' on backside of tank
