Which vacuum cleaner??

Looks like I need a new vacuum cleaner for the motorhome.
Was wondering what you have that you like and/or what you've had that you wouldn't recommend.

Not full-timers but do get out quite often for 5 days to a couple of weeks at a time. Spend 2/3 of time at the coast (sand) and 1/3 in the mountains (pine needles).
Have two dogs, a boxer (short hair) and a golden retriever (long hair).
Floors are carpet in the living and bed areas, with linoleum in the kitchen and bath areas.

Sooo, what have you got that will handle this? Also, she's not a big fan of the cordless (battery) type. Does prefer the bagless.

BTW, budget would be a max of $150 but preferably closer to the $100 mark.
Due to depreciation the above opinions are now worth less than what you paid for them.

We are all good at something.....
I just happen to be a good bad example.

We are using the Hoover cannister style vacuum. Originally purchased in 1994 for our double 40' cabin boat and moved to the motor home. Still going strong.

The cannister setup provides an electric brush and bagged waste for carpet but a slim profile in the immediate working area. Also stores easily in the basement.

Eureka Optima works great for us. Handle retracts so it fits under the bed. We also have a hand held wet/dry vac. Don't recall the name.

We have an Oreck Iron Man vacuum--one used by many over-the-road drivers. Have
had it over 8 years and it is still working great. Oreck quit making this model
a year or so ago. The demand and complaints were so great they have put them
back in the regular line of vacuums. Highly recommend. Easy to store and use.

I have the Dyson DC44 Animal cordless vacuum. We travel with an Australian Cattle Dog and I have a mild allergy to dog hair so I have to "DeEmily" every day. I didn't want a full sized vacuum for the 5er, so I tried a couple small cheaper vacs but they did not get the dog hair up. I love this one. It is easy to use and doesn't take up much space.

Ditto.
ours came with one that looks like that. It's light and easy to use. I use a rainbow at the house so I think it is a little wimpy. I have heard the Kirby is the super duper vac with the most power, even clogged it has more then any Dyson.

We have a Great Pyrenees, which has very long hair. NONE of the vacuums with rotating brushes worked well, including ones that were supposedly for animal hair. It was like trying to vacuum up lengths of string. What works the best for us is the Dirt Devil built in RV central vac with the plain head. This just sucks up the hair without tangles and clogs. I mounted our unit in a cabinet near the entrance door and with the long hose it also allows me to vacuum the toad during our travels. We are now going on our fourth year with this vacuum without any problems.

We have the Hoover Nanolite. It is upright, lightweight, and small. This model was recommended to us by another RVer. It works well for us.

I bought a 20 year old Kirby 3G for $30 on Craigslist.

The 3G model is very similar to the ones that you can buy brand new. They've change the colors and very little else over the years.

They usually go for between $100-$200 used (and $1800 new), but there are a few sellers who will sell it for almost nothing simply because the belt is broken. Replacing the belt is as easy as replacing a light bulb, but some people are mechanically challenged.

Admittedly, the Kirby is overkill for the motorhome, but it does do an outstanding job.

I've had too many cheap vaccuums break on me, so I'd rather buy a quality used one.

DW has a Hoover LiNX and a Black and Decker DustBuster. Both are bag less, and light weight, battery powered, and easy to maneuver in the RV. I think she paid about $150 for the two of them (good sale prices).

We also have a mini-shopvac as part of my tool kit.

We are very satisfied with our vacuuming tools.
