In looking through the archives, I noticed that the threads get closed and can not be brought back to life. Anyone know the reason for this?

Some nerdy tech guy on the tech forum probably just eats fast food in the dark and doesn't care a lot about recipes. :W

Jim,
You might have missed my point. If I've modified a recipe from last years thread, I can't bring it back to the top of the forum to either bump it or bring it back to rehash it.

Not that many people search the archives. And then typically for only very specific threads/posts. And to add a new post to an archived thread would be seen by almost no one. If you want to resurrect an old subject and add new material it is best to start a new thread on the same subject so it goes back to the head of the line for new discussions.

Why wouldn't replying to an old thread bring it back to the front page? These threads are not closed for content but just getting timed out. It really is a shame.

Agreed.
Was looking for posts I made pre...2012 and couldn't find anything.
I know someone posted an answer that gave me long term interest yet it's *poofed*:(.

it's not gone, just not active. You can still search for it, you just can't "bump" it once it's closed. You can copy and paste, though.

Wasn't there (at least at one time in the past) an off forum site that had collected all the recipes here from this forum?????????

I just seem to remember searching through that site for a recipe I had once posted, and in fact found it.

Then again, I suppose it is no longer active.

that started shortly after this forum started but ran out of volunteers.
You can still search your old posts and copy and paste them in a new thread.

Anything over a year old is closed automatically by the software.
This post is #27,858,588.
With this many posts, the threads are closed in order to keep the search engine "speedy".
Once it's closed that's it - sorry

Generally if it gets too nasty, political, religious, etc.

Because a moderator either thought the posting was getting way too far off topic, politics, or people starting arguing too much.
