- WalabyExplorer III used it for burgers. Worked okay. Yes, the grease does pool up around the burgers, and if you scrape it off into the flame, it will obviously flare up. I did just that a few times and the flare up never goes through the mat.
Clean up is real easy. Washed with soap and water and done.
I like 'em
Mike - HappytravelerExplorerMy friend has this grill mat. Kona Grill Mat She only does vegetables on it. Well, she doesn't like fish, LOL.
- PauljdavExplorerI use mine for fish all the time. Also grilled veggies that would fall through the grate. Never had any issues and have used Dixon's of times.
- 3_dog_nightsExplorerthis appears to be a very fine wire mesh, with the non-stick copper coating. You get two sheets 13 x 15 and you can use both sides. I found it on sale at one of those "As seen on TV" stores for 10.99.
As proven on this thread "results may vary", but I'm happy. - rv2goExplorer II

I use the brand "BBQ Grill Mat". No where on the package lists what it's made of. Only states "PTFE coating, non stick and reusable" Use low to medium heat settings, no open flame. - NYCgrrlExplorer

Couldn't wait till tomorrow, it was delicious. The mat does require more time to cook, but the results were there, and cleanup was just a wipe and everything came off, I was skeptical because I put a maple/ginger glaze on the Salmon. I'm pleased! My wife was very happy, since I didn't do my normal routine of cooking the meat and she does everything else. Nothing fell thru, so I put the asparagus on the grill and also a frozen rosemary/pepper tater tot. everything was cooked well.
:c:!
So what material is the mat made out of? - 3_dog_nightsExplorerCouldn't wait till tomorrow, it was delicious. - 3_dog_nightsExplorerI'm $12 into this thing, so I'm going to try it based on the feedback of Fish not burgers. Will let you know tomorrow.
- paulcardozaExplorerThey work great for items that will otherwise fall through the grates of the grill. Perfect for caramelizing onions & peppers, home fries, most any veggies.
Great for making bacon, but be sure to have a way to capture the grease that'll drip off the edges. Grease will NOT penetrate through the fabric and cause any flare-ups. - NYCgrrlExplorer

Maybe they are made from food grade silicone..not sure as I haven't seen 'em on TV or anywhere else.
