RV Ovens, hate them, love them, or just meh?

At the risk of starting a battle here I have to ask what do people think of ovens in RVs?

I have read that they are notoriously hot on the bottom and cooking is not "even". Is that why they seem to have been taken over by convection ovens?

Or is it that they seldom get used and people look at them as unnecessary weight?

I am an old tent camper and have never owned an RV so I have no experience with there ovens. We are planning to get our RV next year and travel the country. My lady says that she has to have an oven and one that works like at home.

I would sure hate to have to leave her home while I travel. Can anyone let me know how I can solve this oven issue?

I'm not a big fan of our oven, but I have learned how to work with it. When we retire and go semi fulltime I think I might look into getting a microwave/convection oven. I have seen people remove the oven and put in a dishwasher. If I could I would take out the oven and put in a washer/dryer combo. Don't know if it's possible, but that's my dream! ๐Ÿ™‚

It is possible, not as easy as changing the light bulbs in the coach, but it is possible. I mean, water and electric are both right there, just need some cabinet work for it to fit!!!

I think the newer rigs installs microwave/convection ovens. They are very nice ovens for baking. My motorhome came with both oven and micro/convection oven. I might as well take the oven out, I only used it once,

We use ours frequently. It does take practice. Lower the temp, and don't place the biscuits in the middle where the flame is. Rotate things often and check progress every 10 minutes or so.

Hopefully the forum membership is mature enough to avoid snarking about an oven of all things.

Since your wife is the expert on how she prefers to use the oven, let her decide that particular feature. There's plenty of other features on an RV that have to have decisions and you can split those decisions between you.

We do use ours. Herself found that our cast iron griddle works well to even the heat distribution. Since we have the griddle with us for campfire cooking, it's not an extra bit of clutter PLUS it won't break in transit.

Convection ovens are nice but there is a bit of a learning curve and sometimes they just don't work as well as a conventional oven for certain dishes according to Herself who uses both and is the Master Chef for the inside cooking. Me, I stay out of that particular activity and stick with dutch oven cooking outside. Would we get an RV without an oven? I doubt it. The oven also stores our cast iron griddle and regular pots in transit. It's never wasted space.

Sounds like a good combo. The problem with these RV ovens is they get so dogone hot on the bottom

I put mine on the rack, directly under my food.

I use mine a lot. As far as lighting it I don't have a problem. As one poster said just turn it on to whatever temp you need and stick your gas grill lighter in and you're set to go.

You can go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy a unglazed tile to put in oven to keep stuff from burning.

Was that with it under the flame?

That was with it on the rack.

That's the biggest downside to the RV ovens, no top broiler. Can't really broil anything.
