Table top heat protection

Question

Does anyone have a a way of protecting a table top from the heat of a flat table top grill. Our table top got really hot and started to warp when we used the electric grill. Its a flat model with a temperature control but it radiates a lot of heat underneath.

I thought about using some solder mats but was wondering if anyone else had some ideas.

Use an upside down cookie sheet or baking pan. Set the hot item on that.

Solder mats are a great idea.If it's small enough, I would set it on a cast iron griddle like this one. In an RV, that would be a multitask for the griddle in limited RV space.Another option is a hot pad for countertops.

Thanks I like the idea of the hot pad for counter tops as its only $14 for a 14x17 one. Also the cookie sheet is also a good idea. Thanks guys.

I've been using one of these for different things.
Silicone is heat resistant up to 400deg.

I use it as a hot pad. I use it on the dashboard to keep things from sliding around.
