Update on greasy microwave turntable

Just a quick update to let you know what worked. I bought Krud Kutter and used first, not much difference, next vinegar and baking soda, maybe a little better. Finally I put the turntable in a plastic tub with the lid on and soaked in ammonia for three days. Probably wouldn't have taken that long but that's what worked in our schedule. FINALLY!! We have a clean clear turntable. Told hubby now the microwave will probably stop working. LOL

This is Mrs. How. How would have used it dirty.

Good to hear you found a simple and common solution! It's just like preceding generations told us:"Spend time or money". :).

Hope you find a use for the other products in time.

have you ever heard of using a cup of water to clean the microwave? place the cup of water in the unit and turn it on for 5 or so minutes. let it get to boiling and then pour the water down the sink and wipe out the crud. the number one best way to clean a microwave is right after you cook something it it. the spills and splatters wipe up much easier. that is what I am still trying to teach my DW when she cooks.

Happy to hear the strong alkaline worked for you. Here's to many more years of service from that microwave!

In our last house, the "designer" put the stove directly in front of a big window. I tried everything to get it clean when we moved in to the house. The only thing that finally worked was Simple Green. Love that stuff!

Yes, cleaning after use is the best thing to do but this was someone else's grease, not mine. We traded motorhomes. My turntable was clean when traded in.

Hmm, makes me wonder if dumping a gallon down into my kitchen sink grey tank and then filling it with water would clean up those sensors after it soaks a couple of weeks.

Sometimes it's just easier to wipe off the grease and exploded crud right after you use it rather than let it cook on and get added to use after use.

But ammonia is a good tip as a last resort.

NEXT THING: we will be reading about how someone filled their black tank with ammonia to "clean" it....:)

When I was a little younger, maybe 65 years or so, my parents had a mom and pop grocery and my dad used ammonia in the meat area to clean the equipment and the big butcher block of fat.

The smell of ammonia knocks me for a loop. Glad it worked for you.

My Mr. would use them dirty, too. Ammonia is awesome. I use it on my range burner drip trays and the oven racks. I put them in a large garbage bag, pour in a glub glub or two of ammonia, close it up and the next day, wipe them clean. ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

Congrats on your success!
