$10 for unlimited internet

Hi,

Has anyone tried these folks?

The first one says no streaming of movies. It is currently unavailable.

The second one is from ebay and superstuff114. Cost is $15 per month for unlimited data.

Both are for 3G from Verizon.
  • If you eliminate video and interactive games, bandwidth consumption is relatively "modest".

We have a couple tablets that comes with 200mbyte/month (for life) and have never hit the bandwidth on either

T-Mobile was partnered with WalMart selling a 4G tablet for $150 (although we bought the 2nd one on closeout for $80) that came with 200M per month, no fee.
  • HI Don

The second listing says unlimited data for $180 a month. (the ad may have changed)

I am going to test a Freedompop wireless hotspot. The Modem was $44 and you can get 500 Mb of data a month for free as long as you turn off all the extra features. The downside is it is a Sprint network which will be fine here at the house but useless for travel out in the boonies.

I was really worried about cutting off the cable internet because I thought I was using huge amounts of data. I was shocked when I tracked it for a month and found I was using less than a gig of data a month.

3G I assure you you won't be streaming movies... (Too slow) You might stream clips but not movies. That said I have used 3G for these forums, Was not bad.
  • Read the fine print if you can find it, many of these cell data programs downgrade the 3g speed at certain times if net is busy and can limit speed if you go over a certain threshold.

Many of these new portable hot spots do exactly that.

    Read carefully.

  • 3G as a hotspot is OK for browsing non-graphic intensive websites, email, and internet forums. There is a reason why it is only $15 a month. 3G can work well on a mobile device as mobile browsers are designed to work with limited bandwidth - but once you connect a laptop to the hotspot with a desktop browser you are going to see a major slow down.

Once you start looking at 4G or 4G LTE hotspots you are going to see the fine print that once you exceed a set number of Gb usage in a month the speed will be dropped to 3G, Edge, or 2G- even when the system says "unlimited".
  • unlimted access, but data speed varies
one virtual carrier is advertised, unlimted, with 1 gig of 4g, after that its all slower
  • Some understanding of how the items in pianotuna's original post work can be found by reading this three page post on the Howard Forums.

    Thread on the howard forums.

I don't understand all of it, but it requires flashing a device to look like a cheaper device not capable of using much data (like a flip phone with 2" diagonal screen).

    It's probably not entirely legal.
