A/B Switch?

What kind (make/model) switch to be able to pass the signal from either my rooftop dish or tripod? Tired of pulling the receiver to change cables whenever I get in trees. I think it has to be able to send voltage to the dish as well as receive signals.

Thanks

  • A push button A/B switch is the better choice but I also have slide switches that work fine. They are not always easy to find - start at Radio Shack.
  • I use a splitter with a slider switch. They say Cable/Antenna. Use them with success at home and on the RV. Available lots of places, got mine at Lowes.
  • I used two coax A/B switches from Radio Shack for this exact purpose on my Directv DVR and it works great.

If you are using Coax, then any simple A/B switch found at Radio Shack or electronics section of Walmart will work. If you are using a DVR that has two inputs, you'd need one A/B switch for EACH of the two lines. For example, you put the leads coming from the tripod into A of EACH box and then the two from the Roof Top into B. then on the 'out put' from the A/B box run a single short coax from EACH into the back of your DVR. If you are using HDMI cables, then they also make 'multi switches' for the HDMI cables.
