Adobe Flash: user options...?

Is there anyway to turn OFF the autoplay of videos upon entering a website? Whenever I go to CNN, Fox, I-heart stations, etc... the video associated with that page will start right up and engage the video player. Even those annoying ad-videos on the top or sides will start playing! I will click the sound off on those players but some are at the bottom or not initially found in order to turn the **** sound off!

I have settings on my computer such that programs do not automatically update without my acceptance upon notifications. I finally had to upgrade my flash player to whatever "version du jour" is current as of this past week.

For the longest time using the previous version I would have to click a couple of buttons to get videos to play... AND I was OK with that method! It allowed me to enable the video to play on my terms and timeline of when to watch (most likely after reading the story on that webpage.) It is so annoying to start reading an article and then BAM! a viagra commercial pops up. It is bad enough to have the in-yer-face bombardment of visual ads... I do not want to be forced to listen to it as well.

Is there a way to universally turn off the autoplay feature for media associated with Flash?

If you follow the instructions provided by numerous sites in "disabling" Adobe Flash, you should also see an option to "Ask before using" choice ... which doesn't disable Flash, but does prevent it from automatically taking off every time a website with Flash content is brought up.

Most sites now use HTML5 video as a fallback if Flash is primary. It's is supported by all major browsers - codec dependent. As an example, click this video. Not using Flash, just a regular .MP4 video using the browser's HTML5 video support.

Treat me as ignorant with things that are computer related

I thought that Flash is (was?) the go-to media player. Isn't the brand of media player set by the home website? Will sites such as I-heat or CNN play when I open their website with another media player that I might have or will install?

I am hesitant to remove flash and install another media player because usually doing this might affect something else and then I cannot get back to where it once worked. I know my limitations and computer and how they work is one of those realms.

Scary words like "disable html5 video" leave me with a blank stare.

I have a basic question: What does "Disable Flash Player" mean? Before I did this most recent upgrade, I had to click a couple of buttons to get the old version of Flash to play videos. I actually liked doing those extra steps. Was my Flash in that case "disabled?"

If I "disable" the latest version of which I now have, will it work like the way I was used to? I guess when I posted the question, I was hoping it would be as simple as finding some user options within a user-friendly "options" sort of page with a button that sates something to the effect of "turn off auto-play." You-Tube has one of these right smack on top in it's pages.

BTW- I run the latest version of Firefox. If Firefox disables Flash as a default in the near future, will I videos be able to be played?

You'll also need to disable html5 video as not all use Flash anymore.

Flash may not be with us too much longer due to increase security vunerabilities? Firefox is planning on disabling Flash by default.
