Looking at the Garmin RV 760 mt with backup camera. Question is do you turn on the backup camera from the display unit, is on at all times or something else? Also how do you power the camera?

Thanks.

When you wire the transmitter module for the Garmin camera, there is a wire that connects to the backup light wire on the vehicle. Thus, when you put the vehicle in reverse, the camera comes on and the GPS image is replaced with the camera image on the screen. The range of the transmitter is not sufficient to reach all the way from the back of a towable RV and the system was not designed to be a full-time monitor - just a backup camera.

That said, I found the image quality of the Garmin camera to be less than stellar. I just traded trucks... kept the 760LMT but didn't bother to take the camera off the old truck.

Be aware if the rear camera is used at night it will flare up on you real bad if it is low to be affected by on-coming headlights. You should mount it as high as you can and point it down at a large angle much like shown is this image...

The camera is powered via the transmitter module. According to the instructions, it's automatic, when the camera is powered on, the Garmin will switch to it automatically and switch away from the camera when it's powered down.

I'm waiting for warmer weather to install mine. I plan to power the camera by a switch, rather than the reverse lights, so I can see what's behind the trailer even if I'm driving forward.
