Best GPS for RV

Have you tried this one in Canada? I heard that it can't navigate anywhere VERY rural, or north of approx the centre of our provinces. That's a problem for me, because I like boondocking in the sticks.

It depends upon the RV. Someone pulling a trailer or toad would benefit from one of the trucker models that make it possible to avoid dead end areas or places with low bridges or other problems. Usually easier to get a GPS that has these functions built into them as opposed to using multiple devices to accomplish the same end.

I should have done that but I thought it had a broad learning curve boy was I wrong....It is just an inferior unit......

I hope that everyone using a GPS unit is keeping it up to date w/ current maps.

I know on my TomTom, that there is a thing called "MapShare" where users make reports to changes in the roads, then when I plug in my GPS to my laptop, that I get a weekly GPS Satellite Fix, plus a MapShare update.

I have mine set to accept only "verified" MapShare files.

I update my TomTom on a weekly basis. If you're not doing the same, then you're bound to have old, outdated information, old satellite information, etc.

The electronic equipment is only as savvy as the end user.

I had a RM7710 and after using it-I sent it back. I was very disappointed in the unit. Terrible screen and voice. I am now using a TOM TOM made for truckers. It is not perfect but much, much better.

Hopefully that changes withe the release of the Dezl 760LMT 7" model this winter.

When my gps start that I just mute it for a while.....

I recently purchased the Garmin Dezl 560. We planned on driving I-75 through Atlanta, Ga. The GPS keep telling that trucks are not allowed to drive though Atlanta using I-75. I had the GPS set for a RV which is allowed to use I75 through Atlanta. Every few minutes it kept telling to get off at some exit and I could not get the proper lanes to use. It looks like their is nothing different between the RV and Truck routing.

I have always liked GARMIN and they are great for customer support!! I want to buy a new GPS that will route me in a such a way that I am not confronted with an overpass, bridge etc that is lower than my rig, I do not want it to tell me that I am nearing something that is dangerous, I want it to route me in the first place to roads without overpasses that are low. Also will tellw here there is diesel fuel at stations I can take my truck and fithwheel in and be able to get out without taking the fuel tank with me. I use Next Exit and that is good but it has taken me to gas stations with a diesel tank but not designed for trucks with trailers. YES I can stop at truck stops but in some parts of the country the truck stops are far and few between.

For what it is worth I bought a RM7710 last Jan. and I have hated it every day I have used it.....trying to down load poi's into it are a pita. Plus takes hours and hours to do. It puts everything in alphabetical order. When I am looking for a Texaco gas station you must schroll thru all the poi's just to find it....No way to put them in as categories, Plus when you email RM with a question or problem I have yet to receive a response. The first time I called customer service I knew more about the unit than he did and he was going to have a supervisor call me back. That call never came. If I could return it to Camping World and get another garmin I would do it in a heart beat........
