Boon docking issues with DISH

I notice a replacement receiver I got recently (Vip211k) now has a specification of 55 watts, and it has thrown my typical use parameters into unfavorable territory. I never thought much about it, but after putting a meter on mine (4+ amp draw), it actually consumes that much power when the receiver is turned Off also! That is a large increase in power consumption over my previous box... and this one gets flaming hot in its accessory cubby. What ever happened to energy conservation?
Anyway, curious on what other satelite users equipment ratings are... 55 amps also? Maybe there are other options?

I just plugged my 211K in and tried it. It was pulling 1.9 A and when I searched and the motor started running it was about 5.6 A. What a hog, it's as greedy as my furnace. MORE SOLAR CALL SOLAR BLVD HUN. Lol

Yah, well, I considered that too, but when all consecutive 4 Wallys did the same thing, sometimes you just have to accept it.. One or maybe two bad ones, but not 4 in a row, so something was up and that was the advice I received from two different sources, Sat peeps and Winegard...
And?
I might have been the antenna...
Sat recommended the cheaper DISH Winegard or the more expensive one, I of course had the middle of the line one, thinking I could upgrade sat boxes if needed..
So, dunno...

Only thing I do know, is the Wally didn't work right for me..
So all's good with the 211z basic model..

Yah, well, I actually liked the Wally a lot better, UHF RF receiver so I could close the cabinet, 211z have to leave it ajar a little bit for direct line of site, PITA, and liked the menu etc.

It was running hot, just kept rebooting for no apparent reason aside from the daily updates. Went through 4 wally's before finally giving up.

I have a Winegard antenna, roof mounted and Winegard AND the Sat peeps in Quartzsite, AZ both advise that the Wally is not a good match with RV's in general and worst with the Winegard Antenna.

Since running Hot, figured it was just that first unit, Tech said send it back for a replacement. Worked great for a few weeks, then started acting up.

I did send it back, they all ran Hot and while in cabinet, even when cooled down, opened, it was still shutting down, rebooting or just not working so after the 4th try, got fed up and just went back to the 211z (which runs warm/hot too) but works fine so far.

So based on the Sat peeps, Winegard and my experience, the Wally, unfortunately, wasn't a good mix for moi. Who knows why... I was thinking heat, but didn't turn out to be the case as best as I know.

Other than no coax out, I too wonder what the problem is. I don't know the watts, but the Wally has little heat output, suggesting less wasted energy.

When I was "Working" aka "Hassling" with the DISH tech support, I started with the 211z, then 4 Walleys (not RV friendly) and they accidently sent 'on purpose?' the 211k.
I immediately sent it back cause it just looked like a 5-yr old model.

The 211z is working fine, no problems. No idea on Amps etc.. sorry..
My recommendation would be the 211z but you'll have to judge the power/electrical stuff.

My 211k with attached external hard drive and radio remote draws about 5 amps when on or off. I unplug it when not using, but then have to do a 15 minute rescan and reboot, a pita.

Ours is similar plus 4.x amps for 40" LED tv, resi frig, house furnace, led lights, laptops, so pulling 20+ amps in the evening is normal.

1000 watts of solar
six GC2 batteries
I could do it on four gc2 but there are mornings that I would be pretty low.
