Boosting WiFi

Many campgrounds that offer WiFi seems to be spotty at best, most often because we are too far from the signal source. I know there are signal boosters, but which one is the best? (has to be idiot proof as well so I can use it)

It is the HAW2R1. Think I bought it direct from them.

I have a closet full of wifi extenders and routers but have found with too many parks, the wifi is just flat over loaded with so may people trying to use the limited small "free" band width. I finally gave up and bought a smartphone. That is the best WiFi extender I have ever used and with Foxfi the connection is free, just $30. a month for my data plan.

I bought an Alfa 1000 wifi signal booster. It plugs into the USB port on your computer. It worked extremely well for me at various campgrounds.

And yet another no cost alternative if you need to share your internet connection when using a long range adapter such as the Bear Extender or Alfa, and running WIN 7/8, is to download the FREE, open source Virtual Router. It will create a WiFi hotspot that your other devices can share, without the additional expense of a dedicated hardware repeater.

This is an example of device which provides extended wifi range for a single computer but which does not re-broadcast the wifi signal within your RV so that multiple computers, printers, game consoles, etc, have access to it. That capability is known as "WiFi as WAN" and it is found in devices made by several manufacturers including WiFiRanger, Cradlepoint, and Jafa.

I have a Hawking 9db antenna. IMO, that is the key. It is not that you are too far from the CG antenna but that they are two far from you. WiFi requires two wan communications. If you are using an internal wifi, you are likely not pushing out far enough for the WiFi router to receive your signal. This is actually the most common problem with weak signal.

WiFiRanger has some great solutions.
